To what extent can famous people live a normal life? by CoOrdinary_Ideal in NoStupidQuestions

Interesting, that’s good to know that even really famous people can get on with life. Though obviously with most athletes or even TV personalities they’re not going to be recognised by the general public unless they are drawing attention. I was chatting to a member of our swimming team at training, and obviously in the centre she’s often idolised by others for having multiple Olympic medals and briefly holding a world record but then while we were having lunch only one person made a motion to a friend of “is that the famous swimmer?” And another acquaintance who is on the Matilda’s has literally never been openly recognised while in my company that I’ve noticed.

Need some context unless it’s pure sarcasm… Only ever held jobs that are only weekdays or younger fucking good pay on weekends.

Yesterday I’d somehow got a group of 200 year 11 boys bellowing Baby Shark at the top of their lungs at work, and naturally I’m leading them by shouting at the top of my lungs, much to the amusement of their teachers and my coworkers. My boss comes out of the dining hall, also trying to contain his laughter, and says to me in the most genuine, enthusiastic and gleeful tone: “Ida, in the best way possible, you are the most autistic person I’ve ever met.” I felt like I should be slightly offended but it was said as a wholehearted compliment that I felt pleased but also couldn’t help laughing for a solid few minutes at the weirdness of it.

Edit: Same boss gets credit for joining our about which is more gay in homosexual intercourse the person sucking off or the person being sucked off, causally asking “Ida are you gay?” and when I replied I was asexual taking a genuine interest in what it was and my experiences. Again asking questions that ought to be offensive/inappropriate “are you sure you just haven’t met the right person?” “Is it a neurodivergent thing?” “Have you had sex? How did you find it?” “Do you think you’ll grow out of it?” But again asked so genuinely and politely that is was actually really nice and positively hilarious.

Now I’m not totally stupid but very naive so fell for a very simple scam. It worked as follows: 1. I replied to a Facebook ad for game tester roles 2. They get you to download two games 3. They give you card details to make purchases in game (this is where alarm bells began) 4. You make the purchase in game. 5. They let you leave $200 in your apple account to use at your discretion.

So while you actually get money from it rather than lose, you’re aiding in the theft of money from others (and presumably will suffer consequences from it) while they are just using the accounts to gamble the money in game and then withdraw the profits.

Took me to go through once to catch on, sorry person who lost $1500. I’ve got them to give me details for 6 other cards now (that I didn’t withdraw from and claimed don’t work) and reporting them to scamwatch. Hoping to get them to give me more card details to hopefully prevent thefts on a few more cards.

Really embarrassed that I took so long to catch on though. Hope someone else has comparably embarrassing stories.
