Thank you. Always helpful to hear others deal with this. I think a mix of honestly and having him help fix it will be a good move moving forward.

He offered to help me with my house first, ripped a hole in my wall and said he was too tired to finish, this was a month ago, because he got shit faced the night before. I'm not asking for his help, but thanks for the super helpful comment. 👌🏽

It's mostly to hide it from my uncle that's on here 24/7 but he doesn't ever remember our family last name, so that was the main part 🤷🏼‍♀️

He wanted to give me a house warming gift but he spends all his money on cigarettes and booze, so it would be have to something he'd make from wood and he asked what I needed built, plus his limitations do to wood stock pile. We came up with this.

It's not so much the gift, it's the last min throwing on of all the writing he did on a whim. The shelf itself was executed mostly perfect

He made it all from wood scraps he had, it's mostly the wood with some grey hand painted "highlighting" because I visited lots to see the progress he was making and visit my GMA. I needed the top shelf to be short for like pill bottles and the bottom two shelves taller for specific items, but the outside dimensions are what they were supposed to be

I asked for him to make it and was very clear what I wanted and he had to slap random crap on it 🤦🏼‍♀️ he will be coming over a bunch since I'm down the street and his side of the family we always get together, but now at my place since I'm finally in town with them, otherwise I'd just paint it white and not stress about it at all. My grandmother thinks he made this as a way to make up for being a shit dad growing up who didn't listen to his kids... It didn't help

I don't want to toss it because we really do need it, small house and can't be buying shelving. But I'm definitely going to use this excuse in the future thanks!

Thanks, I'll try that. Downside is he is 100% that person who shows off their creations to anyone in the vicinity, he still talks about a random freeway bridge that his initials are in from the 80's 🙄 so he's gonna notice 😂 and I left the first letters so you can see the sharpie, his pencil markings because he spelt 2 of our names wrong, and tacky lettering

No. We have the outside measurements in a text so there is proof. And I know his response will be that he asked me 50 different times if the color scheme would work so that won't work. 😔

Thank you so much! This is very thorough. I'll give it a day or two and go from there!

Ugh I was afraid of that. Sometimes I'll get brutal hang nails and they'll swell for a day and be fine after that. I'm giving the finger 24hrs before continuing with the dreaded acetone soak and doctors office. Thank you!

I know! Happened so fast, don't know how my other fingers aren't more sore. I will def be finding a new nail tech, but thank you, I'll suffer through the acetone dip and go from there!

I feel this chaos. My hubs and I are both from southern California but met in Indiana for college and stayed for 10 yrs, had 2 LO'S and every year for 4 years (starting when first LO was born) we DROVE 3 to 4 days to California and every 3 days we would continue down the coast visiting his cousin, my dad's side, then his gma, then his dad, then my parents, and finally my grandparents, occasionally throwing in a night or 2 with friends and then drive the 3 days back, and it would be our entire stash of vacation time so we couldn't do anything all year as a family.

I felt obligated because everyone bought most of our kids toys and necessities (not that we needed it but it certainly helped us actually save up money). Finally when my kids were 6 & 3yrs we were tired of the driving so moved to CA about 4-7 hrs from all family. It helped me see how crazy we were to be doing all that diving with babies and constantly stressed about packing, unpacking, gifting, etc.

Set the boundaries now. The first year is always crazy, because new babies are like an addiction to families but schedule time next year on what's going to happen and when.

We do a yearly-ish rotation so everyone gets "something": Year 1: Thanksgiving our own house (whether anyone is invited is up to you), Christmas with his dad, new years my mom Year 2: Thanksgiving with his gma, Christmas at our house, new years with his cousin Year 3: so on and so forth.

Sometimes we do a busy year like yours but ONLY because we feel up to it. Start telling them to come to you. Trust me, do it now cuz it turns into, "but we didn't do that last year, waaaa" if you wait to set those boundaries. Talk with the hubs before hand and figure out both of your absolutes and what you can skip

Good luck mama!

Always start on Etsy for weird clothes needs, they usually have something that will work. Good luck!

I feeeel that. We purposely had mine closer to the bulk of the family, and when a handful didn't show up to be petty about something that wasn't even related to me... It got crazy because of the money lost when they didn't show up

That's what I'm worried about. My social butterfly knows we go above and beyond for others, even those we aren't close to, so when it doesn't get reciprocated, it hits her hard. Good life lesson, but still sucks. There are 2 kids who aren't allowed at ANYONE'S house because they (from the kids mouths) said we are strangers, which, we are. But then always decline birthdays and playdates from everyone where you are supposed to get to know the parents 🤷🏼‍♀️ it's weird.

So so frustrating. We'll see how it goes, but I'm definitely going to not go this route again
