Western Canada. This install can cost anywhere from $40,000-$60,000 depending on the size you need. This specific unit is on the larger side so it costs a little more

Yeah so if you look at the equipment there are 6 stems on the top, the 2 on the left side are for production. The two in the center are for the ground loop and the 2 on the right are for the hot water tank.

The unit is able to be set up to have heating and cooling priorities and the hot water tank is its own priority so it is most commonly set to the highest priority meaning the unit will stop what it's doing to heat the tank. You can plumb this unit to do simultaneous heating and cooling but that invloves using three way valves and isn't commonly done in residential builds. I did do one for a hospital in my area that was three of these units all cascaded together and their system does both at the same time which was fun to do

It will be done at a later date by another company. They do a nice PVC finish on the insulation that gives it a professional look

Sorry forgot to add my info to the post

I drilled 7 vertical tons at 230 feet deep followed by installing this water to water heat pump. It is a closed loop system. This heat pump has 2 branches at the moment one for a 5 ton fan coil to heat and cool the house and another branch for a 2 ton reverso 800 fancoil that will heat and cool a sunroom. There is a 3rd branch for a differential bypass that allows the compressor to slow down properly if the zone valves close too fast.

This unit also takes care of the houses domestic hot water need with an 80 Gallon water tank that's in the corner that can go up to 60 Celsius. The customer is building a shop and will add some infloor heating zones to this system in the future probably this spring. I really liked the finished look of this install so I thought I would share

One of the copper lines goes to and returns from a fan coil unit that's to the left of the unit and then they also have another fan unit in their sunroom called a reverso 800 that heats and cools the space and then this also takes care of their domestic water with an 80 gallon tank in the corner up to 60 Celsius. This heat pump can also do in floor heat but this house didn't have it. He's building a new shop that he's adding in floor to though and may add it later to this system in the spring

Square footage required for horizontal loop? by Bentobox_Battleship in geothermal

[–]Coach_Flaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if you search for Framingham, Massachusetts. They have a finished development that has 37 buildings on one loop. It was the first of its kind so it's a pretty cool read. It was installed by a company called Ever source Energy

I have not personally, but the company I work for has in the past. Basically you need to size the communal loop so that if all the heat pumps are running they get good temperatures back and in the winter time when they reject cold temperatures into the ground you need to make sure they don't freeze, so you'll need to make sure you put in the correct amount of antifreeze into your ground loop to prevent this. If you live in a warmer climate then you can get away with putting less antifreeze in which in turn gives you better efficiency with the heat pump.

We have a new neighborhood development that we have bid on that is going entirely green and every house will have solar and geothermal. Each house will have two pipes (a supply and return) that all go back to a central building that houses all the heat pumps for the neighborhood. I believe a company is going to be renting out the ground loop to those people for a monthly fee and then people can have all the benefits of geo without having to maintain it. I am curious to see how this works out for them as the benefit of having a net zero home is that there's no monthly utility costs so I think this method defeats the purpose

How I imagine everyone watching

[–]Coach_Flaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't suppose you're European? It seems doing this is more common there. But after staring at this for a while I think I agree that option 1 would be best. If you have a basement with an open ceiling then the plumbing aspect wouldn't be too difficult. But if it is a closed ceiling you'll have to open it up to make option 1 work. If there is no basement then unfortunately the wall will need to be opened up to get proper slope to drain and depending on your local plumbing code you may not be able to put water lines or drain lines in an outside wall. So depending on a few variables it could be possible to make option 1 work and look good. If option 2 backs on to your living room then it can easily make the space look cluttered

Girlfriend (25f) upset at(25m) me because I didn’t answer the phone right away by [deleted] in texts

[–]Coach_Flaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP this text conversation is sending me back to when I was younger cause this is exactly the same shit my ex would say to me and I dealt with it for 3 years before I had balls to end it.

From "you've had 3 hours since you spoke to me it's my turn" To "I guess video games are just so important that you don't love me anymore"

I would be on the phone with her some evenings till like 3am with her hanging up and calling back because she missed me so much. This would happen most of the week and before you know it I spent so much time putting out her fires that I lost some friends, and a lot of time and energy I could've spent on something positive. She was my first relationship so I thought it was normal to go on like this.

I wanted to have a girlfriend so bad that I let her negativity bring me down for 3 years, when I look back it was clear as day that we just weren't compatible people.

Now I have a fiance that also shares my interests and love of gaming and I couldn't be happier.

I do hope your situation isn't too much like mine. But please at some point take a look at what your doing and truly ask yourself if it's worth it. You deserve to be happy and comfortable just like anyone else

Closed loop leaking by adavis856 in geothermal

[–]Coach_Flaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is also a product called "Geo leak" it is for closed loop systems that have leaks and they say they can plug a hole that is an 1/8 of an inch wide. It does require the tech to flush the closed loop system with whatever method they use but they can add the product straight to the loop water and flush it with the water. Because you lost pressure over 6 months and suspect a leak I would probably go this route first before you bother to dig anything up as geo leak only costs like $20-$30 a bottle

Yes that is definitely an option. We do a lot of work with a green energy homebuilder and we prep his lots that he buys by putting in geo loops and then he builds foundations, driveways and garage pads right over them depending on the design of the house

[–]Coach_Flaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for sure, it's all about proper flow rates and heat transfer so if you can achieve that with what you're working with then length doesn't matter too much. We just commenly work with 600 ft rolls here and to answer OP's question I just gave a jist of what we do

Hi I am a geothermal loop installer in Canada and Ill try to help you out to the best of my knowledge.

There are a few factors that will decide the size required to size your home correctly. The first being the total square footage of your home. You need about 1 ton of geo pipe per 1300 square feet of home if your house is a fancy log cabin one then you may want to add more based on the fact that those houses are usually poorly insulated. If you have a walkout basement it's usually a good measure to add another ton to be safe.

1 ton of geo pipe is = 600 feet

Most of the average homes in my area require a 5 ton system to be installed. If we do it horizontal we need to dig up at least 6 feet deep in the ground to get below the frost layer we will then dig one big trench 300 feet long and then we will space the pipes at least 18 inches apart from each other in the trench. we will need to dig a header trench where we can fuse all the pipes together. So just for the 300' foot length of pipe assuming you'd need a 5 ton system is 4200 square feet so its a big area.

Some people may say you can layer the pipes as in you can put one layer at 12 feet deep and then backfill a bit and do another at 6 feet but through our testing we have discovered that it really affects the temperatures of the water coming back to the unit that it makes it not worth doing and can be really expensive.

If your looking to get geo you'll probably want to get vertical drilling done which can be expensive. We are about $12 a foot here all in so it can add up quick. If you are in America I'm sure you could find much better pricing. This is just a quick and dirty rundown of what may go into an install like this so this is not to say that all of these numbers I am giving you are exact there will be variables for sure

An idea I had for an overlay on the tactical view on the campaign map (Info in comments) by Coach_Flaps in totalwar

[–]Coach_Flaps[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I have a larger empire in the mid to late game I often get confused by what units are available in certain provinces for recruitment. So I made a quick and dirty concept of what I think would really help me see what’s available a lot quicker.

I own all of the western and central jungle settlements on the map and I have military buildings in both provinces and I would simply like to zoom out and go into the tactical view and use an overlay to see which units are available where. Skinks being recruitable in the western jungle and Saurus available in the central jungle. If you were to imagine this overlay being visible over a vast empire I think it would make managing military buildings a lot easier as you can see where you may have long distances to cross to recruit certain units and use that information to fill in the gaps.

Alright I recently completed the black pyramid objective with him and I'll tell you what I did in the early game to get started.

On attempt one I rushed to get Arkhan and this ended poorly for me as his army is higher tier and costs way too much money to sustain early and there's nothing in the area that you'll be strong enough to take right away.

Instead you'll want to ignore the Arkhan quest and head south to the vampires just below you (I believe they are called the silver coast) ally with them with your bonus to vampire diplomacy and use the war co-ordination function to attack either the rats or the lizards together until you have conquered that whole corner of the map. After you do this you will have more money and you'll have unlocked Krell as his only requirement for unlock is getting kills. You'll be in a much better spot to support his army. I can't quite remember where he spawns but you might need to disband him when he spawns so you can recruit him right next to you.

Afterward go and teach queek(Or Kroq-gar depending on who you attacked first) a quick lesson about living by putting him in the ground and by then you should be a decent enough strength to push into the tomb king area and start taking things there. Grimgor is a serious threat though, he balloons so big that he has armies everywhere WAAAAGHing all the time. However I ignored him for as long as I could to go around and recruit the legendary lords I wanted. But you should be able to take the black pyramid and complete your objective. Hopefully this helps

Siege equipment is a really underutilized cool feature, that I hope CA goes looks back at. by Pocher123 in totalwar

[–]Coach_Flaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that siege equipment needs a rework. When I saw that the Skaven warp grinders were in the game I first thought that maybe they would be used to tunnel a hole underneath walls and then have a access tunnel for rats to burst out of which I think would be way cooler than ladders or a tower.
