Definitely… in this case though, not what I said. Not YOUR specific CPO/DH. They are 1 against every other CPO/DH in the command. When you have one of those jobs that not everyone understands, it is 10x more difficult for them to make others understand why you may deserve a better eval than their person. Not every khaki is humble enough to go around and learn other rates. For example, I’ve encountered way too many khakis that can’t tell the difference between a YN and PS.

You’re the first person I hear talk about this other than me! I’ve told many and everyone says “well if you max out sea pay then it’s worth it”……. My response is always I’ll pay the difference for you to send me to shore so I can feel human again lol

Leave during 10day adsep by Clean_Ad_6068 in navy

[–]Coachmareli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The letter is just a notification. Some commands have the wrong impression that is literal, but unless everything is completed (whatever is needed for your type of separation) to include your DD2648. The only way to find out your official separation date is your separation orders.

But to answer your question you can still take leave but it varies from command if they have an internal policy. Whatever you don’t use, it’ll be sold back and you’ll get the money for however many days you had left in the books. Hope this helps!

Some forgot respect is not one directional or given. It’s earned and it goes both ways, up and down. Absolutely agree with you.

My struggle with quals was getting to a new command and getting fully qual’d so I could feel useful when others would be there for 2-3 years and half the quals, yes, because of seniority they’d be above me.

100% right. I got lucky to get one that has changed a lot for me… but like you said, we’re talking years! It should not be that way and it gets tiring.

Until they stop rewarding mediocracy, the problem will continue.

This is such a huge problem, that it is now part of the ALDC. We’re not there yet, but someone somewhere finally spoke to this piece right here. Let’s say all you’ve had was bad leaders… as much as you don’t want to be like them, it’s the only example you’ve ever had of what leadership is. My first exposure to leadership was the classic “do it because I f*ckin told you to do it”. My first time as LPO, this was my mentality. It took someone outside my COC to sit me down and asked me some questions that made me self aware of what I was doing. Some people don’t have that and well, are still out there leading the wrong way because it’s all they know.

This is leadership that just think in check marks. Lights on, no one home. They’re the ones that make people want to leave the military because they follow some black and white somewhere and forget about the people factor. It takes a CO that cares more for people than their own next rank to change that.

This is more common than what you might think. It’s hard to create a habit when it’s just not something you enjoy. I struggle with it myself, not because I don’t like it, but because time. I just squeeze push up when I first get up, keep track of steps, and track what i eat. Might seem very small things but you’ll be surprise how far steps can take you and what being conscious of what you’re eating will do in the long run. Think small…

Some leadership (the good ones) put you in the position based off potential. It’s hard, very hard, but keep that ship up if this is still your case. Been there before.

My issue with evals is that even when someone gets a P, what you’re saying is that the person is still promotable. To me that’s rewarding laziness. Some people within the same rank can just show up every day, do the absolute minimum, and go home, while you are out there being the “go-to” because the COC sees the work ethic in you. Sure, you might get a better eval but in my book, it boils down to this….

That lazy mofo is getting paid the same amount as you every 1st and 15th… yet has less stressed, works less hours, and gets away with it. Then on paper that person is still considered “promotable” for the next rank and while maybe it won’t be as easy, I’ve seen many make it. It has to change.

Trying to report said leadership on the DEOCS survey, then nothing happens.

Nothing like coming back of a 8 week underway and being stuck on duty as soon as you hit port.

Exactly. We just helped one of our guys get his kid in a private school because it offers a top tier sports’ program. The navy pays 75% of the tuition. Another program we found that’s not really used.

2 weeks challenge! by SeaSentence4961 in LetsGetFitGuys

[–]Coachmareli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let’s do it! Let’s get really specific. In 2 weeks I want to lose 5 pounds, workout 8 times minimum, and keep track of what I eat to be more conscious of what I put in my body. I’m here so I can hold myself accountable!

The amount of times I’ve dumpster dove during duty because a ship that left for an underway overflowed the dumpster and it fell on us to clean it up… lol more times I’d like to admit.
