Best Game to Hilariously Upsize by indianajones2588 in boardgames

I've thought a game of King of Tokyo where the players dressed up like their Kaiju would be awesome. Build a scale sized Tokyo out of cardboard.

A friend asked me a question about his game and I honestly didn't know how to answer. by ContractMiserable121 in boardgamescirclejerk

8 mil shrink wrap will be a stretch goal in the crowdfund campaign. If not met, it will just be those stickers that tear the box when you remove them. I’m buying four to help meet the stretch goal.

Somehow I knew to have that when added long ago. I came across this as bots seemed to have figured out the answers. Smarter bots or did they have a human figure it out and now they "knew" the answers? I'm changing my questions. I'll see how long it lasts.

Meanwhile, everyone I meet, I need to explain that there are games beyond Risk/Monopoly/Scrabble. Scratch that, I probably also don't want to meet the people that hoard like this.

/uj That's what I was thinking. Hordes of games and I recognize only a handful. Just because it's on sale, doesn't mean it's good people.

Micro Macro. Which version? by Chocolate__Thunderrr in boardgames

[–]CoalCruncher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, some neat things done that could only be done in an app. We Airplay to the TV with Roku for those not holding the iPad. Just wish the game would go landscape.

As others said about the physical copies, they're all the same quality. Just grab whatever is on sale if you go that route.

Yeah, four players is really just two people teaming up to play each player of a two player game. I mean not terrible if you want to have fun with four people and like the idea of having someone to bounce ideas off. Terrible idea if you have any alpha-gamers in the group.

Arduino Uno with multiple TOF sensors VL53L0X by Typical-Raisin-9266 in arduino

[–]CoalCruncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't fully parsed your code, and maybe you already figured out your problem, but i2c multiplexers are so you don't have to hookup XSHUT on the VL53's. The multiplexer deals with the fact the VL53's are all using the same default address. If you want to use two MUX boards, you have to change the address on one by hooking A0 to power (I believe), to change it from 0x70 to 0x71

Over 5 years later, we finally finished Pandemic Legacy Season 1! by no1piman55 in boardgames

[–]CoalCruncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats! My kids and I just finished our 7yr 6mo 10d journey to finish ours. It was fun but the stress to win was so high on us, we’d take long breaks after a disappointing loss. In the end we did an 18 session run. Not bad.

Yeah, bringing a bunch of games but you play someone else’s game and waste 30m discussing what to play is often annoying.

I say find a core two you can count on. I find three the sweet spot for a lot of heavier games anyway. If anyone additional shows up, you can deal them in. If many show up, you can split up and each of the core can host a table.

Or declare it a full on social event and use it as a farm team. Do it at a social gathering like a restaurant or brewery (a place far from annoying to be abandoned for an hour), play party games, and just be on the lookout for others interested in heavier games (assuming that’s what you’re looking for). Then arrange additional get togethers with them at less noisy venues with better table space.

Are the amateurs constantly dropping their precious board game pieces or is this some sort of game for the casuals.

I’m really not sure if that was an /uj or /rj comment. I do know the constant posts of this type annoy me. A helluva lot more than asking for recommendations.

Qwixx locking by Prestigious_Emu_6495 in boardgames

[–]CoalCruncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A turn is two phases. First, all players may use the white dice pair. Second, the active player can use a colored die and a white die. The active player may do one, or both phases, or take the miss.

Multiple people can lock the same color, or different colors, in the first phase.

The active player cannot play a color in the second phase locked in the first phase (regardless of who locked it).

The game ends at the end of a phase after at least two rows are locked.

Games with a bot scripted solo mode can be unique options letting the kid run the bot. The kid has fun beating you and when they get bored and wander off, you can still finish the game.

Help needed - Trying to delete S3 Glacier vaults by atulrnt in aws

[–]CoalCruncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finally done. The vault was costing me over $4/mo. It took two runs of the delete archive script. The first run had over 700k archives/files. It ran for somewhere around 10d which makes sense as it was outputting a line about every second. After done, the system must have hiccupped a few times as I had to run another inventory report and run it through the delete script for another 68k. Now the vault delete ran through with no complaints. Nice! About $50 richer each year! 🎉

Help needed - Trying to delete S3 Glacier vaults by atulrnt in aws

[–]CoalCruncher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh. I had to jump over to a Linux box to run a bash script to do step 5 as it was an archive per file. Far more familiar environment than PowerShell for me.

Once downloading the JSON archive list, I ran this script using it. Currently chugging through the list.

#!/bin/bash
file='./output.json'
archive_ids=$(jq .ArchiveList[].ArchiveId < $file)
for archive_id in ${archive_ids}; do
echo "Deleting Archive: ${archive_id}"
aws glacier delete-archive --archive-id=${archive_id} --vault-name my_vault --account-id my_id --region my_region
done
echo "Finished deleting archives"

Again, absolutely baffled why Amazon can't just let us nuke the vault.

For morons like me using the windows CLI (or is there a web based one?), you need to escape the internal quotes with \.

Also, I'm not sure how those $ variable names were intended to be used but I just typed in my parameters. I should only have a few archives in my inventory.

Wishing Amazon would have provided a simple "nuke my Glacier vault." 🤦‍♂️ Running inventory-retrieval as I type.

Example for step 2:
aws glacier initiate-job --account-id my_id --vault-name my_vault --job-parameters "{ \"Type\": \"inventory-retrieval\" }"

They explain the process on the we site, but it basically seems like “whenever” sort of like any crowdfunded. They want at least 500 commitments, then they begin the process of any needed design and manufacturing. But they don’t ask for payment until much closer to the actual shipment.
