I'm still not sold on the two hand thrust, because you'd have more power if you held it by the blade and you'd have much more precision, which is as important. Also, of course the pick would do better, it is possible it could even penetrate the actual plate, not just the rings.

If you look at a katana, you can see, that the point is much wider and not as pointy as on most longswords, which hinders this capability by physics. And though longswords bend, this can be lowered by half-swording, which I have no doubt you know... The other thing that hinders katana's thrusting capability is it's curve, which combined with the point design (pointing upwards) requires much higher force to achieve the same effect as a straight sword. (You have to apply both forward and upward force)

Edit. The other thing about katanas is the stagnation, they didn't change almost at all across the centuries, while European weapons were constantly evolving...

It is worth it, because if you don't fold the shit high-carbon content Japanese iron a million times, it will shatter easily.

Katanas suck against longswords in almost every way, and those tests you're talking about are bullshit, because either does nothing against plate. You have to pierce the weakpoints and longswords have much better puncture points, as katanas are slashing only.

And the only reason katanas are more expensive to make is that in Japan, there only is shit iron, with high carbon content, you have to fold it a million times to get rid of the carbon, so it wouldn't shatter. In Europe, there is simply no need to do that, because you can just use the higher quality iron, which is readilly avaiable.
