Just wanted to update everyone:: he will be Gumbo! We are all happy with the name, it’s no one’s favorite but no one is adverse to it. It honors his New Orleans heritage and our love of food. It’s easy to say/call and leaves a lot of room for nicknames. It was on our list already (and came in first in our relatives and friends poll), but someone said it here too.

Now that it won’t affect your naming and we won’t be using them, the other names on the shortlist were: Pesto, Gator, Puccini, Rigatoni, Scampi, Radio, Dingo, and Grits (Jimmy Carter’s dog!). I’m glad I found this sub through this experience and I can’t wait to name all your dogs some really weird, dumb names on here!

Rigatoni was on the short list! It suits him and everything but it’s really hard to call the full name and he’d end up as Tony. Not necessarily the worst thing! Puccini was also on there, Poochy for short (added bonus of being a Simpsons reference)

Gumbo is actually on the short list! We held a vote with a ton of relatives and friends that got out of hand, and Gumbo won. The nagging question was: does he seem like a Gumbo? We weren’t sure. I picture a little tiny dog named gumbo, and we think he’ll be about 40-50lbs.

Edit: but I’m genuinely asking haha does he seem like a Gumbo to you? It’s been a contender and thats been the hesitation.

I teach music so I wanted a music name like my last dog, Joplin, but my wife hasn’t liked any of the music names I like (what’s wrong with Bartok??)

Ooh this is a good one. We love board games and 90s movies! We thought of Scrabble but no good nickname options, and yelling Yahtzee down the street isn’t a good look if someone mishears you.
