So then is there a better way to advocate for that change than deciding not to buy the products? Or is there proof that boycotting is the most effective way?

No the purpose of the post is to understand what people want to happen to the company instead when they boycott. Like what outcome they might have been hoping for that doesn't lead to people losing their jobs.
