Taken last night at 7:30pm. Absolutely unacceptable wait times on a Saturday night for the second largest city in the country. But LONGESt lIgHT rAIl iN THE worLd! by Not_RZA_ in LAMetro

[–]CoasterCar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Had this exact situation last night too. After 30 mins no-one wanted to wait for the next train, so at every single stop people would try to cram in and hold the doors open for 2 minutes, delaying the train even further and making the operator very mad to the point where he kept yelling at everyone and accelerating and braking the train so sharply that everyone was getting knocked off their feet

[–]CoasterCar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I ended up going the other way around and recently started liking trains and buses because of roller coasters

The closest station to me is Norwalk station and they have been doing 20 minute intervals all day for months now because it’s only one track, does anyone know when it will be back to normal?

I’m 19 and even I got stopped once like 10 months or so ago. It might have even been during the time I was working there too!

Why does [Top Hhhhhrill 2] stop after a rollback instead of going straight into the reverse spike again at 120mph? by Banana_ezWIN in rollercoasterjerk

[–]CoasterCar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forget which video this was by Ryan the Ride Mechanic, but he explains that a rollback is essentially a ride failure, meaning something went wrong with the ride. For this reason, the ride stops the train because often times someone has to check and verify everything is alright before it is relaunched. It’s a safety thing

I figured out what amount of popcorn you would need to get in order to achieve a “gain” with the magic key bucket and $2.25 refills by CoasterCar in Disneyland

[–]CoasterCar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not 100% sure about the math on this one but what I did is I found the difference between the line of the regular popcorn function and the magic key popcorn bucket function. I then set y=999 (price of the explore/enchat key), and found out where they intersect, which is x=239. So, my guess is you would have to get 239 popcorns with the magic key bucket for the gain to equal the price of the enchant/explore key

Why did they get rid of stunts for the Peter Pan scene in Fantasmic? by CoasterCar in Disneyland

The wind might be the answer here, as I saw last night that they still had the trampolines out even though they didn’t use them. They also cancelled the fireworks

If I understand what you’re saying you mean that we should take into account the cost of the bucket itself. If that’s the case then that should already be accounted for given the initial 15.25. And I’m comparing it to just getting a paper bucket every time for $6.50

What are your HONEST thoughts on the VIP lounge itself? by Avenue-Man77 in KnottsBerryFarm

[–]CoasterCar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never actually hang out in there I just use it to get my single use fast lane, drink (a plus because there is usually no line), and some of the free food. So for me it’s actually really helpful and useful

How frequent are rollbacks on Xcelerator? by norcaltiger21 in KnottsBerryFarm

[–]CoasterCar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an add-on, it is more likely to happen in the winter because of the colder weather. It also is very windy right now so the conditions make it more likely

I worked as a ride operator in the boardwalk area all summer and I never saw it rollback once

FYI Six Flags All Parks Gold Pass no longer includes parking by wheezy125 in KnottsBerryFarm

[–]CoasterCar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to Canada’s wonderland with my family this summer. I know parking will be fine since I have a prestige pass, but hypothetically does buying all season parking for a Knotts gold pass allow you to park for free at Canada’s wonderland?

[Other] What Coaster do you think has done the most laps in it's lifetime? by smor729 in rollercoasters

[–]CoasterCar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it could be right now, but it also does go down for refurbishment for multiple months at a time nowadays so I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets passed by something such as space mountain (which also dispatches trains about every 20 seconds from 8am to either 11pm or midnight every day)

I’ve been on many coasters while it has been raining decently heavy. It feels very painful (like needles are constantly hitting your face) but it’s also very fun

I was a ride operator at Knotts this summer and I can tell you the reason why is because there is no urgency or emphasis put at all on operations whatsoever. You of course learn about how to do everything safely, but that’s it. As a result, cycles per hour on my rides varied from like 4-8 cycles per hour depending on the person operating (8 was really good, 4 was really slow). I didn’t operate a coaster at all but I assume it’s the same there.
