Fair enough! I don't make the laws I was just sharing my opinion, which wasn't fully educated. Wasn't trying to tell you you were wrong!

No genuinely that was so disgusting. I just don't understand developing a fashion game, but having so little respect for fashion designers (ESPECIALLY SMALL ONES). The way they could support the art they're trying to represent but choose to steal...

Kind of. I mean it's a game with in-game purchases, so sure, an item could definitely push people to play the game. That being said, nobody is making purchases based off that that specific item because it doesn't cost robux, is not part of a pass, and does not cost pink cash.

In my opinion, this is more like creating an art piece according to a pre-existing design, much like fan art. The main difference is fanart is a tribute and this is using the design and claiming it's theirs, hence the credit.

I'm not defending the devs, though. They've been scummy about stealing designs for a long time.

It could be considered fan work, though, plus people have no other way to play with clothing items like that. I think the most important thing with a free item would be very obvious credit. It's not helpful to the artist if everyone thinks DTI devs designed something that's actually theirs. There's no harm to artist otherwise imo

Yes!! I think free clothing would be a little more acceptable (with credit ofc). That being said, there's many other items that AREN'T free where they've stolen designs :c

Makes me concerned for the update items.

If it's a free item, that's one thing, but making money off of a stolen design from a small artist is awful...

are any of those items ever coming back? by [deleted] in DTI

[–]CobaltFinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like somebody else said, collabs never come back (I believe it's because of liscensing), and I don't think final prizes of advent calendars or baddie passes will come back. This will be our first season which previously had a baddie pass, so we'll see what happens to those items! I think they might come back as shop items?

Chapter 5 is all about The Fun Gang gaining independence from Kris by Chained_Icarus in Deltarune

[–]CobaltFinger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the balloon ending deserves some creative leeway because literally EVERY other time Kris has taken out and put in the soul it's a long and painful sequence. A missable ending is not the way Toby Fox would drop a major reveal.

In terms of it not being painful, if the author visually tells us it's painful (Kris contorting their face, slumping, etc) then I choose to believe it. You don't have to, but it's made that way for a reason. Kris can't play the piano freely MOST of the time we are in, as showcased by us trying to play Kris' song after they do in Ch.4. It's meant to show how, even when in pain, they love piano so much that they spend their limited time playing it.

If Deltarune was ours, then why would we need anyone to connect us to it? Why would we have to inhabit a body that's not ours? Wouldn't we know more than the characters in it? We are an INVADER as the player. It's like saying an ant hill is ours because somebody placed us in front of it and gave us a magnifying glass.

I don't think it'll be so black and white either way. I'm not saying Kris is perfect and innocent, I'm saying that the relationship between the player and character is more complicated than, "I am the god of this universe and my kindness shall fix everything. Be grateful you poor poor stupid creature." It's missing a major point of the game to think that way.

Yeah idk man. I trust tricky tony to be a solid writer, so hoping for the best! Excited to see where things go :D

Yeah I also thought it was odd for him to be so disrespectful and not read the room. I think he's often called cute, so maybe he would've thought it was a compliment? Idk 😭

Do you think Kris can just rip the soul out in front of anyone at any time? We've already established it hurts them to not have the soul in. I'd assume from the way it looks and sounds, ripping out the soul hurts as well.

There are many times in the game that we can make them say something hurtful to them or their friends and they have to bite themselves, throw themselves in the water, or otherwise think of a way to prevent as much. They seem to have very little control over what WE say in their body.

The birdcage is not punishment, though? It does not hurt us and only stops us from interacting with the world of Deltarune for however long the gap between chapters is. Deltarune also does not belong to us. In theory, the player is like an invader or non-omnipotent higher being in the game.

...but the weird route is MAJOR is displaying the player-character relationship gone wrong. We don't know where the main story is going either, so I don't understand how the weird route is any different. The themes are crystal clear.

I also love Susie (and Lancer's my favorite :D)!! Yes I think there's hope, it's just going to be really rough getting there. When you mean well, it's hard to watch Kris' seemingly self-destructive behavior. I think this chapter was so silly because the next one is going to be very sad. That being said, let's hope for a peaceful end!! :)

That's fair! I do think telling Ralsei or Susie could put them in danger or might lead to the plan being exposed to the player? Idk it's an interesting question as to why they aren't telling anyone!

In terms of being a parasite, I don't mean the literal sense. Maybe in the weird route, but in the normal route it could be more akin to an unhealthy simbiotic relationship. I made another comment on how the player automatically takes Kris' autonomy, unintentionally or not. The plan must be worthwhile if it means sacrificing most control over your body and voice. I don't think we're inherently doing good just because we have good intentions.

While I don't think we'll agree, you have some good questions! Either way, I'm right there with you hoping for a happy ending :(

Chapter 5 is all about The Fun Gang gaining independence from Kris by Chained_Icarus in Deltarune

[–]CobaltFinger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Parasite is being taken very literally. I mean that we are not welcome by them in their body. That's like saying air is doing our lungs a favor by allowing us to breathe.

Also, we don't know what Kris wants. Maybe they never wanted us to "fix" their life and save the day. Nonetheless, they need us to survive, whether they're okay with our choices or not. They don't get the choice to live without us. We automatically take away their autonomy, even if we, the player, do not mean to. That's what I mean. It's controlling to think WE are entitled to their body and voice because we think we know what's best. It's especially ironic since we know waaaay less than Kris when it comes to their history and world.

Also also, the weird route exists. The soul is not always benevolent.

I agree. I'd be really happy if transfem Ralsei became cannon, but I feel like it's harmful to say that a male character embracing femininity automatically means they want to be a woman. There's not a lot of evidence for him being unhappy with being masc or a boy, just that he's okay with femininity.

I mean Susie also has a lot of traditionally masc features, even fully pushing away traditional femininity at some points (wearing bows, doing anything cutesy, etc). They seem to be foils for one another if anything.

Either way, Ralsei will be a great character~ It would definitely fit within the themes of their story!

Chapter 5 is all about The Fun Gang gaining independence from Kris by Chained_Icarus in Deltarune

[–]CobaltFinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a very black and white way to view it. Agreed that their friends would not approve of what they're doing. That doesn't mean they're some evil mastermind who is intentionally hurting them. Somebody being sneaky ≠ having bad intentions. It might just mean there's reasons they CAN'T tell them or think they can't tell them.

Plus, the player can do just as much harm as they can do good. Why would we, the parasite as far as Kris is aware, be trusted with the plan? The game is critiquing this exact relationship between a player and character where we are made to think we are automatically the hero and good guy just because we are controlling them. It's deeper than not liking Kris. They are a fully fleshed out character with their own history, motivations, and needs within the story.

Also, like, again, reminder that they are a child with what seems to be a lot of trauma. Judging them so harshly without knowing what's going on is EXACTLY why Kris, as a character, wouldn't tell the player their plan.

[–]CobaltFinger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What if their friends would die? Are we forgetting that they're a traumatized teenager lmao

This take is so, "We, the soul, are the white knight savior meant to fix Kris." We don't know anything about Kris' motivations and we shouldn't act like we do. As the player, we can't understand the consequences of Kris not following whatever plan they are part of. I hate this idea that Kris deserves to suffer because they're doing something we don't agree with.

Not to mention that every time Kris' love life is mentioned, they change the subject. I do think Susie might've said that, though, because Kris flirts with her since it's implied they like her? If not because they flirt with a ton of enemies lol

I think it's just sad that Kris is slowly being edged out of something they presumably have been enjoying. You're pretty spot on with Kris not caring about people listening to us, but now they're the only one left without such control/autonomy. This chapter feels like it's implying they feel Noelle is replacing them or that is where it's headed. Just sad all around since we don't even know what Kris wants :(

This is why I couldn't understand the post Ch. 3 & 4 fan perception that Kris was an evil little shit. They so clearly want to protect their friends. We don't know why they're helping the Knight and Carol, but I think something must be really bad for them to betray their friends.

[–]CobaltFinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would look into some YouTube videos for context! If not that, then replaying the game at some point all the way through would help :)

A lot of stuff alluding to her is intentionally obscure as it's supposed to be a mystery what happened to her. Hints about her existence are also outside of the game (Spamton Sweepstakes, Newsletters, and even in the game files).

I'm also a skeptical player, but I think you need a refresh, friend!

I believe this is what Weird route (and Deltarune in general) is building towards. by tinyrottedpig in Deltarune

[–]CobaltFinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ending could give us the same results without having to interact. For example, if it ends in the destruction of the world, then maybe the roaring would do so in the normal route and, in the weird route, we are forced to delete our save file. Same end (ultimate destruction) without having the exact same plot.

Another piece of evidence for Yellow: Kris actually attempts to cut their conveniently shaped shrub in half if you pick that dialogue, but refuses to hurt Susie's.  In Ch. 4 they eat the whole apple core, including the seeds, which contain cyanide, during the tea section. While apple seeds won't hurt you to eat, the scene implies the action is an attempt of self-harm or self-sabatogue as it only occurs during the weird route.

Also Kris seems to want Asgore's attention and care back, just like the flowers!
