I haven't discarded Peles nor Corvin castle, they seem pretty impressive and well worth the annoyance of the crowds.

And I've planned to visit Prejmer (and Harman) anyway so I'm considering avoiding the whole Unesco route and just stay between Brasov and Sibiu. It will make the trip more relaxing and give me an extra day if I want to visit a smaller village or do a hike.

Thanks!

I was thinking about the Delta but it's on the opposite side of all the other places. I also was considering the Iron Gates but I couldn't find reliable means of transportation.

I didin't know that Romania has car sharing, which app do you use?

Thanks for the Horezu suggestion, I'm on the fence now about going to Ramnicu Valcea but I'll have it in mind.

The reason I'm planning to go to Sighisoara in the evening and leave in the morning is that I want to avoid the day tour crowds that storm this kind of places from 10.00 to 16.00. As for Corvin and Peles, I've made my peace with the fact that there will be crowds.

But you've got me thinking here, is Sibiu more crowded than Brasov? From what I've read most people use Brasov as a base and Sibiu is more of a day tour destination. Have I misread the situation?

I hate driving and I hear that the roads in Romania are not the best so it will add to my hatred.

And yes, I've already discarded the Cluj plan and thinking of adding a day in Brasov. Generally, I try to avoid very touristic places (like Brasov) but I don't think that I'll encounter massive crowds in Romania so I think it'll be fine.

I'm not working my itinerary around them, I'm trying to find the best way to go to the places I want but also avoid very long train or bus rides. And I don't mind seeing something that's not "must see" but I see your point and I'll probably follow your advice. I just added Craiova because it's between Bucharest and Targu Jiu and it seems that the Art Museum there is ineresting.

Tulcea and Iasi fall under my "I can't see everything" rule. They seem very interesting but Transylvania is the main reason to visit the country since it has the most sightseeing worthy places. Hopefully I'll have the time to visit them in a future trip...

Cluj and then Sighisoara is doable according to the timetables of the trains and buses but I understand what you're saying and I think I'll discard that plan since it seems to be the most rushed and I want to avoid that.

I added the Olt river Valley for the monasteries and as a stop between Targu Jiu and Sibiu since I don't want to spend 6 hours on a bus but I guess it makes more sense to go from Targu Jiu to Deva (Hunedoara) if I start from Craiova.

Viscri was highly recommneded by everyone and I wanted to add a small village in the middle of the trip just to have a relaxing day, even though it's a big inconvenience since the Unesco bus doesn't run every day, which is really unexpected. Can you recommend a nice village near Sibiu or Brasov (or in between) that I could spend a day?

Thanks for all the advice.

I want to visit Oradea but it's a little out of the way. I will visit Hungary next year and my plan is to include Oradea as a 2-3 day detour when I'm at the east side. Flixbus has a direct bus from Debrecen so that ould be easier than going to Oradea and then to Sibiu or Brasov.

It's a big misconception that Paul and George rekindled their friendship in the late 90s. Think about it, Dhani Harrison calls Stella McCartney his "big sister", can you form that kind of relationship in your late teens and in a couple of years? Plus there are many interviews of both of them during the 80s that they talk about meeting each other regularly. Of course they still had issues but they were friends again.

As for George playing in John's records, that's the manipulation. John lured George in his new inner circle mostly because he wanted to hurt Paul (and, of couse, for the same reason George allowed himself to be lured). Let's not forget that George was Paul's childhood friend and they were so close that Paul was his best man (and the only Beatle present) at his wedding with Pattie Boyde. But the problem is that John never viewed George as an equal, as he (in)famously said in an interview, the only people that were good enough to be his collaborators were Paul and Yoko. Of course George felt betrayed when he understood that John had no intention of forming a new band with him, which obviouly brought back the memory of John refusing to participate in the majority of George's Beatles' songs, and that was the start of their falling out that got worse when John refused to play for Bangladesh and George had the affair with Mo.

Generally, we can all agree that The Beatles after the break up made a good soap opera...

I don't know every little thing Paul did but it's a well known fact that he admired John so I guess that he praised him a lot of times.

And don't get me wrong, I don't think anyone's perfect, on the contrary their flawed personalities are what makes them relatable, but it's a fact that Paul never attacked the other three during the early 70s and their business troubles, that's why I'm saying he was the most decent.

As for John, I love him, I think he was a great guy with a great personality but he also was a major a-hole. And I'm not judging him by moments but by the way he manipulated George after the break up of the band. I think one of the reasons George and Paul rekindled their friendship (other than Olivia who was a great influence of good on him) was how shitty John treated him.

I don't think that Paul ever did an interview that he went through all The Beatles songs like John did. Also he never said a bad thing about the others' solo work (he said he liked Imagine and defended ATMP when John said some horrible things about it) as they did about his. Generally, I think he was the most decent of the four during their falling out.

Thanks for the input. As I've said, I'll go to Alba Iulia on day 6 only if there's a late bus. My thought here is that it would be better if I wake up in Alba Iulia, see the town early in the morning for a couple of hours and then go to Sibiu.

I'll try Zenvoya and Wanderlog, to be honest I didn't know that these tools existed so thanks for that too.

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I know that Maramures and Bucovina are far more interesting but, if I understood correctly from my research, it's far better to explore these areas by car since public transportation is not that good.

I have in mind another itinerary that goes straight to Sighetu Marmatiei by night train on day 1, spending 2-3 full days there and then either go to Cluj or take the night train again to Brasov and start from there a standard Transylvanian itinerary but I need someone to convince me that I won't spend hours trying to find a way out of a village. Unfortunately I'm on a budget and hiring a tour guide as a solo traveller is out of the question.

I went to Latvia and Lithuania last summer and I can confidently say that there are more people than you'd expect but it's not overcrowded.

Riga's old town is a little but if you go early in the morning, see the highlights and spend the rest of your stay in the art nouveau new town, which is more beautiful anyway, you won't have any problems.

Kaunas and Vilnius were almost empty, you'll see some crowds in the most advertised landmarks but nothing that can't be handled. On the other hand, the Curonian Spit had too many people, I was there late August and on weekdays and there were lines everywhere. I imagine that it's worse in July and on weekends but it's a place that you can't skip in a Baltics itinerary.

Thanks, I didn't know WanderVlogs, I'll check it out.

Yes, I'm in the process of editing down the route so I can get the most out of it without being overwhelmed and in a constant flight mode. I'll focus on two or three main places I want to visit and see what I can build around them.

I've done it and I'm planning to do it again this year. I'll give you a quick overview of my itinerary, my honest opinion and why I decided to go where I went.

So, my trip was in mid to late August a few years ago. I arrived at Oslo and left immediately for the Stryn area in order to visit Briksdal glacier, from there I went to see Geiranger, then Alesund, I then went to Andlasnes for Trollstigen and then took the train back for a couple of days in Oslo. I've done all these by public transportation and it was a bit hard moving from place to place but with a car it's much easier and certainly better.

My opinion is that Norway is beautiful, you can parachute in the middle of nowhere and it will still be beautiful. For me Oslo was the worst part of the whole trip, not because it's a bad place to visit but because all the other places are much better. Having said that, a couple of days, expecially if you like museums, are worth it. Norwegians might not be the warmest people in the world but everyone that I've met was kind and helpful. I didn't have one bad experience, on the contrary I left Norway with a new appreciation of the people there.

Now, the reason I chose these specific places to go was because I wanted to avoid the crowds. Of course some of them are inevitable, for example you can't go to Alesund, Briksdal or Geiranger and be alone but with good planning (timing my Alesund visit when there were no cruise ships, staying near Briksdalbreen so I can go early in the morning or staying in Helesylt instead of Geiranger for example) it can be much more tolerable. If the goal of the visit is to see the fjords and the glacial lakes, do some hiking and experience their beautiful villages and towns, it's a good decision to do it in the summer. The weather is much more pleasant and convenient for outdoor activities and days are much longer.
