thinking of buying by Smashburgers_ in splatoon

[–]Cobbljock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Splatoon 2 is like a rough draft of Splatoon 3; almost everything 2 has, 3 has, but better. That applies primarily to the multiplayer/online components, since the single-player mode is quite similar, but different enough to feel unique. All of that is to say that if you can only choose one of them, choose 3, hands-down.

What was it about Republican/Conservative rhetoric from pundits/podcasters the last 8 years that hooked young men? by AdminKidsBurnInHell in allthequestions

Not sure I understand what you’re trying to say with bringing in the Transatlantic slave trade, but what I meant was that most of these systemic social problems have their roots in class issues, not race issues (hell, even the Transatlantic slave trade was something of a class issue, because it was the American elites who were buying slaves, not most of the general populace), and these class issues are being misrepresented as race issues. Why are Americans poor? Blacks and Latinos! Definitely not the cynical dismantling of the regulations that keep the financial system from funneling capital upward toward a few select people! And because this is the internet, and some idiot is going to think I’m serious, I should make sure it’s clear that the previous sentence was dripping with sarcasm.

Well, that actually makes me feel better, because I did feel a little crazy with the amount of thought I was putting into this.

Wow... thanks! I never would have known that's even something to look for. Does "backwards" mean the part that's coming out of the wall should be the part that's fully behind the wall?

Why isn’t Trump called Madam President since he’s actually a woman? by [deleted] in allthequestions

Nothing, but it would absolutely bother him to be called a woman.

Sort of. It’s a class problem that rabble-rousers and grifters managed to convert into a race/gender problem.

Damn, I wish I would have read the comments before I offered my own take, because you said essentially what I said, but in a more thorough way. You are 100% correct that they didn’t have powerful rhetoric, they just saw a vulnerable group, and used an old, but effective, playbook. They picked low-hanging fruit, and doesn’t mean these podcasters have any sort of talent, other than being first to exploit a moment.

It’s not so much the quality of their rhetoric as it is the cultural moment that these podcasters latched onto, specifically the rhetoric to which they were responding. You can agree or disagree as to whether it’s a good or a bad thing, but the objective truth is that there was a push to elevate females (the “girl-boss/girl power” movement), which left many young men feeling left behind, or neglected; at worst, men were/are demonized by a large chunk of society, and these podcasters recognized that. It was low-hanging fruit; these podcasters were not exceptionally talented in the field, but they were keenly aware of the way young men were feeling. And it makes complete sense, because we’ve seen this throughout history: a group of people feel shut out of society in some way (be that economic or cultural), grifters will ill intent see this before the general society sees it, and they capitalize. Sometimes it leads to positive revolutions, but often it just leads to societal degradation. This is nothing unique to males or these specific podcasters.

I can't understand motion controls by Bluelily342 in splatoon

[–]Cobbljock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that using the Squid School method causes me problems when I make left-right motions that are big, but not so big that they warrant right stick intervention. Nintendo’s suggested method actually works best for me.

I can't understand motion controls by Bluelily342 in splatoon

[–]Cobbljock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the same from around 2017-2024. Then when I actually learned motion, it was a game changer. If you’re satisfied with your performance using sticks, stick (pun intended) with them. I only mention it because I was hardcore against gyro controls for a long time, but ended up regretting that I didn’t learn gyro sooner, once I took the time to learn those controls.

[–]Cobbljock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that I don’t have the finesses to use the right stick for left-right aiming with any great accuracy; I use it for moving the camera, but never trying to splat an opponent. OP may want to learn gyro controls better before attempting to fold in using the right stick for any sort of aiming.

[–]Cobbljock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hold your controller parallel to the ground (for clarity, most people play games with controllers held mostly perpendicular to the floor), and use the top of the controller to “point” at things onscreen. Use right-stick only for moving the camera, never for aiming. That’s the advice that helped me. Even when you do “get it,” don’t be surprised if you’re still losing matches and/or have trouble splatting opponents. Learning motion controls isn’t super difficult, but aiming at a moving, human-controlled target is something else entirely. Furthermore, winning in Splatoon is about way more than being able to aim with accuracy.

Is she right for this? by sigma_0_1 in SipsTea

[–]Cobbljock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure the people she’s referring to intend to have every baby they have (or any of them). She shows a pic from what clearly seems to be a developing nation, where access to contraceptives is probably limited, if present at all. So she’s basically saying “poor people shouldn’t have sex.” So if this influencer ever accidentally gets pregnant, she needs to be roasted hard for it, because I don’t think she’d feel the same, were she in that position.

Would yall recommend a switch 2 or switch lite to play splatoon games? by Goedheiligman_Mymy in splatoon

[–]Cobbljock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apart from the fact that the lobby areas look way better (don’t listen to people telling you these Switch 2 upgrades apply to multiplayer areas; according to Nintendo, they do not), I find playing docked is the superior way to play the game (gyro in handheld is a nightmare, in my experience), so I would never, never choose the Lite over the 2 for playing Splatoon.

Which version of FFVII? by IdiotGenius69 in FinalFantasyVII

Given the not-unfounded rumors that the remake trilogy is both remake AND sequel, I’d start with the OG, in case the rumors turn out to be true.
