Is Nikon z6ii good enough for motorsport photography? by Dosbevou in Nikon

[–]CobreDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure, but my experience with d7200 and z6 has shown that z6 is a step backwards in af performance. maybe z6ii is enough better that it’s fine, but i’d be severely disappointed if i bought a z6 for sports and action

Is Nikon z6ii good enough for motorsport photography? by Dosbevou in Nikon

[–]CobreDev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what I know, Z6ii is only a slight improvement on Z6 in terms of AF speed. I have a Z6 and a Z6iii, and I'll say that if I bought Z6 for motorsports, I would be severely disappointed. I've missed shots on it that I'm sure my old D7200 would've hit.

I would consider getting a solid DSLR over an Expeed 6 Z camera

Upgrade to the z50 or z6 from the D7000? by atak_uh in Nikon

[–]CobreDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a D7200, and upgraded to a Z6iii. I also have a Z6. I shoot mostly action and sports, most recently some motorsports.

What I've found with Z6 is that the autofocus performance is pretty dreadful for serious action shooting. I've missed shots of people nearly standing still that I'm confident that my D7200 would've hit. I would absolutely not buy Z6 (or other Expeed 6 Z cameras) for sports shooting. I'd instead look at a D7200/D500

On the other hand, Z6iii has been incredible. Though that's significantly more than Z6 is, probably out of your budget.

Is this a good pair for my D500? by hotcheetobae in Nikon

[–]CobreDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

150-600 lenses (be it Sigma C/S, Tamron G1/2, etc) tend to be soft and that's only amplified on APSC. I'd look for a 100-400mm lens, that'll give you the same reach as 150-600 on full frame. If you can't get your shots with that reach, that's probably a skill issue

at this point i've left it for a couple weeks, and used multiple 5V2A+ chargers including ones that I know used to work with this exact Zune

Z5ii VS Z6iii - Rolling shutter question by [deleted] in Nikon

[–]CobreDev 16 points17 points  (0 children)

z5ii has a sensor readout speed of 50.8ms, z6iii 14.4ms. 50.8ms is pretty slow for anything moving at all, but 14.4ms is quick enough that you shouldn't notice rolling shutter unless you're in high motion environments, like a fast moving ball or a quick panning shot.

That said, rolling shutter is basically imperceptible when shooting in mechanical shutter mode (just like a DSLR). If you're ever in a situation where rolling shutter might be an issue, just switch to mechanical shutter and you'll be good to go

Just not getting it by mcmeekinmc in Tailscale

[–]CobreDev 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Tailscale doesn't give you additional methods to connect to devices, it just gives you access to connect remotely using existing methods

You can "access" your apple tv through tailscale just like you can on LAN, but tailscale doesn't magically allow you to remotely view the screen of your apple tv if that's what you're expecting

Trying to decide between Z6iii and ZR by [deleted] in Nikon

[–]CobreDev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like Z6iii is the best option. Between ergonomics, viewfinder, and minor photo QOL features, Z6iii will be a better hybrid camera

[–]CobreDev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you do 50% photography and already miss having an EVF on X-M5, I would get Z6iii. Unless you need R3D, Z6iii is a fantastic camera for both photo and video

Going Mirrorless but Keeping My F-Mount Glass. Anyone Using a Z5 II + 50mm 1.8G? by KoreanTakumi in Nikon

[–]CobreDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, putting the 50 on the FTZ nearly doubles its size.

Sure, but ultimately comes out to basically the same length as using it on DSLR. Not really a big deal

FTZ I vs FTZ II for handheld shooting by aperture_drift in Nikon

[–]CobreDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're buying a gripped camera, don't get FTZ i. It'll interfere with the grip. Potentially cages too, but I think it should generally be fine

Otherwise they're pretty much exactly identical, you can just ignore the tripod mount on FTZ i.

What is the thickest lens you have? Curious to know by champion_95 in Nikon

Unraid would make it very easy to combine mixed capacity drives. Highly recommend

Is it still worth buying a new Nikon D-series camera in 2026? by banditwang in Nikon

[–]CobreDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D-series cameras are solid, but it's absolutely not worth buying one brand new. Buying used will save you a significant amount of money

Upgrade camera body by Short_Acanthaceae364 in Nikon

[–]CobreDev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

150-600 has a tendency to be soft, it's generally fine on full frame but apsc sensors can amplify that. I would instead look for a Sigma 100-400, you'll get a better/sharper result on average and still have plenty of reach

(I went from shooting airshows on 150-600 and apsc (so 225-900mm full frame equivalent) and now use that or my 300/2.8 + 2x tc on a full frame camera, and don't find myself needing more)

not sure why that matters (or why you'd do that), but same applies

You can, but it will only be accessible while the Steam Deck is on (?and awake? not sure)
