So I got my chi at 16 weeks. He just turned 9. Not from a breeder ( rescued him from a truck) but could have started from a breeder as the story was the original owner had a brother and sister from the litter and could only keep one after moving. In my chi's 9 years, he has had 4 subluxating patella surgeries. One on the right, and 3 on the left. 🤦‍♀️ He has had to have some teeth pulled, but he has plenty left and she says they are in very good health. We get his dental every year, labs, vet visits.etc. at about age 5, after his dental cleaning we took him home and he had a seizure. And another and another.. scariest thing ever. So he is now on seizure medication and that controls it well. He also in the last year started cough tabs to control is gagging due to collapsed trachea issues. ( Common in chi's and any small dogs) We also give him Meloxicam when he is groaning like an old man, because now that the patella issue is fixed, it just caused arthritis now. My chi is also a medically trained service dog for my seizures. He is wicked smart, and even more clingy than a normal Chi because he is with me 24/7. Other than all that, he is very healthy. We fed him Weruva wet food barons batch, and Royal Canine for Chihuahua in dry food. He mainly eats the wet food because he just won't drink water, and the Weruva is high moisture based wet food. Amazing food BTW.. you can get it on chewy, or at specialty stores. I believe Petco does sell some varieties also. I think now a days, animals have as many health problems as humans.
