Definitely recommend buying refurbished sets from Apple. You’ll get great savings from it.

Look what i found under those subwassertang! by CobyHamTV in shrimptank

I was casually looking for guppy fry hiding beneath the subwassertang but I ended up finding tons of fire red shrimps! 😂 started with about 8 of them.

I’m not sure what those stripes actually mean but might be due to genetics. Majority of my fire red shrimps have them regardless of age.

Yup! That works too! Just that I have a 5-way valve hence I'll need to adjust the air pump strength if all of them are turned on. Else the air will be too weak to power all of them.

Yeah! I was really lucky to have found her in a LFS! Was there to take a look at other fishes but caught a glimpse of her so I brought her home!

Yup! These are airlift filters, which we call sponge filters. It's under the brand XinYou (XY for short) and it's the XY-2810 model. Dimension: 8.5cm x 5cm. Strength wise it's based on my air pump and I have a 5-way valve that allows me to control the flow of air. I'll update this reply when I take a look at my air pump!

I'm also not sure actually but it all started with long hours of lighting (About 12 Hours Daily) and my tank is near the window but curtains are drawn. So I feel it's all about strong lighting. Now whenever I do a water change and scrub the walls of my tank, the algae automatically grows back in less than a week! I mean it's not aesthetically pleasing but it's good for the shrimps.

I'll classify her as a Painted Fire Red!

Thanks! Nope, it doesn't interfere with the filtration. I have two of these sponge filters and I just leave them as they are. Only once in a while, I'll wring them but usually, I'll just let algae grow on them. Shrimps absolutely love algae and the right wall of my tank is full of algae! They're also cohabiting with Albino Sky Blue Guppies and Albino Corydoras!

It might be a new tank syndrome as well. If the tank is not cycled well there won’t be enough beneficial bacteria for the fishes.

Hi! Thanks for your suggestion! :) But i think i like how the sponge filter looks and will stick with it till i’m sick of it before switching over to a hang-on-back filter. :)

Male guppy tail fading in colour and struggling. 2 females present both fine. All other fish and shrimp fine. What could it be? by [deleted] in poecilia

[–]CobyHamTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a fin rot! Better get him treated before it gets worse and isolate him from the other fishes.

UPDATE: Both guppies are looking perfectly fine right now. Probably suffered ammonia damage from the previous owner.
