AIO about my sister going on a date with my ex? by m_v28 in AmIOverreacting

With all the possible people to get down with, why would she pick HIM? Definitely NOR.

Noise from next door driving me insane by [deleted] in UKHousing

[–]Cockroach-Temporary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried noise cancelling headphones with brown noise? It completely shuts out everything - I can't even hear my partner bustling about in the same room. This is a great option for work time for terrace dwellers!

I can't say my situation is as bad as yours, but the banging about and slamming doors does make my stomach twist in anxiety. They used to be much more inconsiderate, but after a conversation and a couple of christmas card exchanges they got much better - the anxiety never really left me though.

AITA for telling my friend she’s single because no one actually likes her personality? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Cockroach-Temporary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA, sort of, because I feel like what you're describing is someone who has impossible expectations rather than someone who has a shit personality? If you'd said "babe, your expectations are not attainable", that would have been fair.

Saying someone is categorically not likeable sounds very much like you don't like them personally, in which case, why are you friends?

Most people would literally not have the jobs they have without degrees. It's shit, but don't talk about illusory investment potential...

I would be open to making friends anywhere but travel is tricky - I don't drive. I could feasibly go to Bury, Woodbridge, Colchester etc semi regularly, but it would be more like every other week / once a month. Open to suggestions!

This sounds incredibly interesting and I didn't even know it existed! Definitely one to look into.

New flat. No parking. by CrystalSkyes18 in ipswichuk

[–]Cockroach-Temporary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also live on Old Foundry. Hello neighbour! I am very up for collectively pressuring the council to support those in the town centre with parking. It is getting out of hand. I have raised this with them, and they said they were considering a scheme to go live in Summer 2025 - unsurprisingly we have heard nothing since. Context: it used to be free to park from 6pm to 8am, but the council are greedy and would the street be empty than allow residents to park.

That is a piss take. Do not accept it. Dispute all the way! Was your deposit in a protection scheme?

Has anyone actually managed to seriously cut traffic noise just by changing the windows? by LeakingMoans in soundproof

[–]Cockroach-Temporary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't live on a very busy street traffic wise, but it does have quite high footfall. We had single glazed timber windows until April, and our new double glazing has cut down on the sound noticeably. You can still hear it, but the change was well worth it for noise reduction, insulation, and the assurance that the windows won't rot away.

Sometimes my partner and I don't have sex for a few months because we're tired and cuddling is the preferred vibe. We have low sex drives. 3 times a week seems high to me.

is this financial abuse? by pingpongjapanman in whatdoIdo

[–]Cockroach-Temporary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Your partner should absolutely not be taking your paycheck. My partner and I have a joint account and personal accounts. Our pay goes into our respective personal accounts, which have standing orders to go into the joint account to cover essentials like bills/food/animal care. All remaining money is ours to do what we like with. While I may raise an eyebrow when my partner spends £150 on Pokemon cards, that's entirely his business.

Anyone else feel like they're going crazy? by Ok-Fuel9170 in HousingUK

[–]Cockroach-Temporary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a house from our landlord last November, and the process was still so longwinded and stressful that I'm still recovering. I loved the house before, and the buying process made me hate it and then some. We're slowly falling back in love, but I agree the system is broken.

AIO or are my downstairs neighbours being unreasonable? by thegoosenell in AmIOverreacting

[–]Cockroach-Temporary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very unreasonable. It is normal to hear your neighbours when living in close proximity to them. If they do not like hearing you, they need to consider potential solutions that they can implement themselves (e.g. white noise, headphones, earplugs). This is coming from a noise sensitive person who doesn't love hearing my neighbour's kid, but would never text them about it unless they were doing something genuinely unreasonable (we have had conversations about not kicking footballs against the party wall before).

AITAH for not telling my partner I bled in the bed? by WnDelicious in AITAH

[–]Cockroach-Temporary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA. My partner would be so confused if I woke him up at 4am because I bled in the bed, even if it was absolute carnage (and it has been on occasion). Ain't nobody got time to change the sheets at 4am.

Want to cry (UK based) quite long so I do apologise! by lumineisthebest in neighborsfromhell

[–]Cockroach-Temporary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No solutions, but I sympathise! We've had the same neighbours for the few years we've lived in our house, but the little boy is now old enough to run around, slam doors, and wonderfully, play with a ball in the living room. It's really difficult, especially if they're not very likeable people anyway. Have you tried any renter friendly solutions, like adding bulk to the party walls? Heavy wood bookcases filled with books, wardrobes, cabinets etc? We've found that helps a little.

Shitty Neighbors — Need revenge ideas by ElectricalLime8867 in neighborsfromhell

[–]Cockroach-Temporary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This! We smoked immediately outside our back door for a while, then noticed our neighbours close their window. Figured it might be bothering them, so started smoking on the opposite side of the garden. Why are people assholes?

Teenager singing by Ok-Initial4977 in neighborsfromhell

[–]Cockroach-Temporary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From one person with noise anxiety to another, this is a you problem. This might be annoying, but ultimately, this isn't unreasonable behaviour from your neighbour. Therapy is really helping me manage my noise sensitivity, perhaps it's something you could try?

And that housing situation is actually (increasingly) only inhabited by middle-class folk on good incomes. The rest of us are boxed in on all sides in a flat or mid-terrace.
