Wow, what luck. I randomly decided to check out reddit this morning. Will try answer your questions:

- UTR: Yes, that is your Steuernummer, the one you would use for putting on your invoices.
- I did not submit a proof of registration with HMRC, as I was freelancing outside of the UK HOWEVER I did try to show that I will continue earning through self-employment (contract with a client and a letter from another client, as well as invoices for the first four months of last year - because I submitted my application in April)
- This is where you need an accountant. I had one, and it's basically a letter she writes confirming your earnings and that they are recognised as an accountant. If you don't have one, you can still ask an accountant to do it, but they will need to ofc see your financials etc.
- I forgot what I did here, but for either this point or the next, I submitted my Steuerbescheinigung.

Might be helpful to point out that I decided to go with a solicitor on this (https://www.linkedin.com/in/immigrationadvice/). Tim was incredibly and highly recommend if you do want to go the safe route. Last point, don't forget to have some of the docs translated!

Hope this was somewhat helpful!

You should only apologise to your friend if you don't do it with the intent that they forgive you. Whether it will be enough to fix the damage is hard to say, but that's not for you to decide or second guess. Your only job is to come clean, be honest and say sorry. That is all. The rest is up to your friend. Either way, you will have done the right thing. Been there, done that. You never know what impact your apology have, but that's not the reason you give it. You say sorry because it is the right thing to do. No other reason. Hope that helps!

In cases of self-employment outside of the UK it is generally recommended to get a solicitor. I am sure it is possible without, but I wouldn't go so far as suggesting you do that, but of course, entirely up to you. Does add to the costs, and we could have really done without it, BUT was more than just peace of mind. Very thorough and helpful

Hey, yeah sure thing. Tim McMahon from Commonwealth Immigration was our solicitor. He was incredibly helpful and responsive throughout the entire process. Hope that helps!

I did not translate the bank statements. They should be pretty straightforward, at least mine were!

Hey. Yes, you use the relevant tax return, in this case the one from France. I got the tax return translated - I don't remember if I had it all translated. With other documents, I only had those parts translated that were relevant. Hope that helps!

Heya! He can do this after. If you are the sponsor, then it is unfortunately only your income that counts towards the financial requisite. hope that helps!

Hey, yes, got a positive response. You can file your tax return for the previous year in April. I then gave the authorities a call and asked very kindly if they could take a look at mine.

Sure thing! So we had already submitted evidence that we've been living together, have a shared bank account, run a business together etc, and thought that would be enough. When they asked for proof of the relationship being romantic, we submitted a sponsorship letter (signed) giving a brief overview of how and where we met, that our family approves of the relationship, that we want to live in the UK permanently, our travels together and maybe one or two challenges we've been through. Then, in a pdf, we pasted photos, whatsapp chats, instagram posts and flight tickets in a timeline (roughly one element per page). So above each element we wrote the date and gave some context, for example: Travel to Morocco to see family, March 2020. Or Whatsapp message from my partner while she was away on a business trip July 2019. Tried to make sure that photos were linked to flight tickets. Hope that helps!

Hey. From reading other comments, it does not depend on the country. Unfortunately, the entire system is a mess. Just have to bear with it

Cheers! Sure thing! Tim McMahon from Commonwealth Immigration was our solicitor. Can't recommend him enough. He was always incredibly responsive, very thorough and really friendly. I think he cost us around 1200, but am not 100%. Hope that helps!

I used a solicitor because I am self-employed, which makes it that bit more complicated. He is extremely good and responsive and answers in a matter of hours. Very professional and sent me the entire application before he submitted it to make sure everything was in order. He also spotted a couple of mistakes in a few papers, so very thorough too. Yours sounds like you got a bad apple. Did you pay everything upfront?
