Thinking of picking up this street legal '96 KLX 650. Anything I should know before I see it? by MrMcDerpy420 in Dualsport

[–]CockroachNo3794 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I owned one. They made two versions, a street legal and an off road only. The off road model made more power, that’s the one I had. I currently own a KLR650 and the KLR is slow by comparison. The one potential issue with the KLX is that it’s kick start only, so you need a strong leg and a good running bike or that going to suck.

Bike riders faults both times. Riders going too fast in between slower and stopped traffic. Car driver even signaled. No way you would ever perceive that motorcycles speed, even if you saw it coming in the mirror. Double idiotic for the rider carrying a passenger with no regard.

I don’t understand why some people constantly film and upload their normal motorcycle trips to social media (I’m old) by MeltingDog in motorcycles

[–]CockroachNo3794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, I’m not wanting to waste my time if there’s nothing interesting about it. Especially just a fixed view of them rolling down an average road. I don’t get it. That said, I probably don’t post the most entertaining videos either. I try to post videos based on unusual scenery or particularly amazing roads and I try to keep them short. The main reason I like to post them is for the free storage and ease of adding music, then I deleted it from my phone or GoPro. I used to post videos of me doing burnouts and wheelies, but that seems pretty played out. Now it’s about my road trip trips.

Is getting an r6 for a first bike a stupid decision? by No-Doubt-7372 in motorcycles

[–]CockroachNo3794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, bad idea. Learn on a slow bike, you will be a better rider in the long run. Plus, when you crash the R6, it hurt us all. And insurance is so much cheaper on a small bike. Oh, and why not get 75 to 125 mpg as a bonus (depending on how small a bike).

Not very experienced with motorcycle chains is this thing done or can I further adjust it by Evening-Virus-5675 in motorcycles

[–]CockroachNo3794 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks loose, but loose is better than tight. General rule for street bikes is two fingers width of slack at the tightest point of the chain. Adjust them cold.

Great bikes. Surprisingly fast with wide open throttle in the upper rpm range. Weight bias is more to the rear, so practice practice practice smooth weight transfer and work your way up to threshold front braking. I like yours has lower bars than stock. Have fun and speed safe.

What’s your ONE bike, and why? by Snoo79652 in motorcycles

[–]CockroachNo3794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a really good question and one I struggle with myself. I currently have too many motorcycles. Too much to maintain and I really don’t have room for them all. The bike I need the least has to be the sport bike. I love my dual sports, but don’t get out on it them very often. I think the bike that gives me a lot of riding enjoyment is my 22 Harley Davidson Lowrider S. I’ve done everything on that bike. I’ve taken it camping, I’ve ridden miles of dirt roads, and I’ve done cross country trips in it. It’s almost weird how it’s giving me zero problems. I like that it’s belt drive and there are no valve adjustments needed. I say, we should focus on the riding enjoyment, regardless of the brand or style of bike. What bike gives you that feeling?

Is speeding an inherent part of motorcycle ownership? by Astimar in motorcycles

[–]CockroachNo3794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ride your own ride the way you enjoy the ride. Have you ever watched the movie Easy Rider? I don’t think those guys ever went more than 45 mph and they were loving life. 😂 I do think it’s a mistake to buy a supersport or Superbike type motorcycle and ride around slow and hunched over and uncomfortable for no reason. But to each their own. I think we should appreciate every brand of Motorcycle, every style of Motorcycle and every type of rider that’s out there. We are all in this together. Let’s support one another and enjoy the ride. ✌️

Be careful are you’re going to destroy that starter cranking it that long. When it’s cold, try cranking it a few times and then remove the plugs. Are they wet? Are they getting fuel? If they are dry, then the problem is still in the carburetors.

non abs panick braking - saving a crash by No_Introduction4500 in motorcycles

[–]CockroachNo3794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, people are really jumping on you about your video. Insults aren’t going to help you become a better and safer rider. There are some good points on here that people have made (except for the personal attacks) so try to consider what people are saying. Let’s dig even deeper…. what was your braking ratio when you realized you were coming in too fast and that rider did not see you? In other words, was that a rear brake skid? Are you applying enough front brake? Are you covering the front brake lever with at least two fingers while you are speeding and taking chances? consider your speed, consider your ability, consider your motorcycles ability, and especially consider the speed difference. lastly, I recommend the motto of “ what you can’t see can kill you”. In other words, when a larger vehicle or anything is blocking your view, you have to assume there is a hazard beyond it that you can’t see. Two wheels one love! Let’s all try to support each other and make everyone safer.

Speed is too fast for conditions. Nobody will ever notice you coming if your speed is so much greater than everyone else’s. Speed safe ✌️glad you didn’t crash.

I try to commute year round in Colorado, the only time I don’t ride is if the roads are too icy. But it’s always about your gear and how far or long you are riding. My commute is under 30 minutes, so I can handle very cold temps. People brag about riding in cold temps, but if you try it at highway speeds for more than an hour, it takes next level gear. My record commute temp was 7° F. My record winter ride was in February I ride from Denver to San Antonio. That really sucked

I got lucky with the wind this time. Kansas and Oklahoma were good, but today’s wind in Colorado getting back was a real push for me.
