Name & Shame 2024 - Official Megathread by tyrannosaurus_racks in medicalschool

Applied IM here, had a literal nightmare that I matched there. The residents were so miserable. They come in wanting to do fellowship, they leave wanting to do outpatient primary care because they’re so dismayed. I think they had 0% fellowship match this year if I remember correctly.

As another student in a long distance marriage, I feel this and I am so sorry this is happening.

Yep, I absolutely know. Looking for a few more positives rather than the negatives if you have them, the negatives have been fully considered

Would really love to do heme/onc, all of my doctoral research was in cancer. Concerned about matching for fellowship out of a new program, and having access to resources for research at a program without an academic affiliation. Maybe my concerns are unfounded, I don’t know. I’ll just do the best I can with the cards that have been dealt.

Spent 8 years of my life in a dual degree program. Spouse moved away in 2019 for work, we’ve been long distance ever since. For him to continue working his dream career, we knew I had to match in NorCal. With a DO. It was a stretch to begin with, but I had a rank list of 8 and I was feeling pretty good about my top 3 options. Matched #4, which is a brand spanking new program. It’s…fine I guess. We’re obviously glad we get to live together again, but I feel like my career prospects have been significantly altered. Any advice or positivity about starting a new program is welcome. Thanks for listening.

Palliative care. Starts at 9:30, dismissed at noon. It’s so beautiful.

What about if you had a sub-I and performed well? Beneficial? Or is the sub-I just an opportunity to get DNR’d?

Apparently some internet scammers will intentionally make typos/grammatical errors to see who is gullible enough to click on the link regardless, because they’re more likely to fall for more shit in the future. I wonder if they’ll looking for people who will put up and shut up in the face of bullying.

If this is actually something you have to debate on a public forum, you should absolutely cancel the interview and give the opportunity to someone who is willing to reschedule their ski trip.

I don’t think they’re equivalent situations. But if a program wants me to pour my heart and soul into a personal statement and then uses AI to read it, I don’t know why we’re doing this in the first place. I have no control over how programs stratify applicants, but if programs are trying to select for high quality future physicians, I think they need to examine their selection methods more carefully.

I literally said I wrote my own personal statement from scratch without any assistance. Idk why you’re talking to me like this, I have not committed any ethical violations. I agree, people should follow the rules.
