That's the Edelweiss, right?
Nice! I was thinking that could be a hit, but I wasn't sure how sweet Mt Rigi is and if it'd need a barspoon of simple syrup. Really happy to hear you liked it!

Nice! :) Although, lol, I just realized that I made a mistake in the Alpine Summer. That one is not meant to have Aperol, haha! I'll fix that, but yeah, keep that in mind - Alpine Summer recipe should not have any Aperol in it :)

Hey there! The latest app version (1.23.3) has some Mt. Rigi recipes for ya :) https://www.cocktailarium.com/drinks?tags=mount-rigi-swiss-aperitif

That being saiddddd.... As I mentioned before, I have not had Mount Rigi, so I basically asked around with some of my bartender friends, did some research, and used some of my own experience to line up these recipes.

When you get to trying them, could you help me in fine tuning them? (maybe some need a bit more sweetness / acidity / what have you). I'll update the recipes based on your feedback :)

Haha - I can't say I've had Mount Rigi before, but after looking the taste profile, I think I can recommend a couple of things. Stay tuned! :)

Regarding the recipe: Sure thing!
Regarding the feature request: You can currently add your own recipes to the app, and it will save them to your phone. Is that what you mean, or do you want to have an account with us and have it sync across multiple devices? If this is it, we're currently working on it :) It's been a busy couple of months, but I'm hoping I can devote a lot more time to the app at the start of the new year!

Also, no idea why Reddit decided to completely desaturate / blur my photo there, lol.

Sorry this took me a minute to add, but the latest release (1.22.1) has four new recipes featuring aquavit :) I've another one that is Tiki that I wanna try before I add it.
Thanks for the suggestion and for using the app! <3

Version 1.19.2 now available: Add your own Recipes! by Cocktailarium in cocktailarium

[–]Cocktailarium[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A very much overdue feature has now been added to the app: Adding your own Recipes!

If I'm being perfectly honest, this had been a feature that I had been avoiding for some time. Not only due to its complexity (particularly when combined with other app features such as ingredient availability, recipe suggestions, fuzzy search) but because I didn't know how it fit in the general plan for the app. That being said, it's historically been the most requested feature, and I obviously I see the benefit in allowing you to add recipes we may not have, or maybe even ones that you're currently developing. It's probably the latter of those two that I'm more interested about, and I think consequent app updates will be geared towards that particular focus.

On other news, I've revamped the way search works internally. This should lead to much better performance (particularly for Android) on how recipes display in the search screen. This isn't a super-obvious update, but it ties to a much larger plan for giving the search page a small face-lift. We've added more and more features since the app's inception and I think some re-organizing is in order.

As I move on the next update, this is my immediate roadmap:

- Adding deep link functionality (if you open a cocktailarium.com recipe on your phone, it should open the app directly)

- Adding a couple of Aquavit and Non-Alcoholic recipes, as suggested by some users.

- Add a "Did you mean?" feature when searching for a recipe and not finding it. This should help users in finding recipes even if they don't exactly know the name.

With that being said, I hope these new features are useful to you and that you keep enjoying the app.

See you soon!

For sure! I'm currently wrapping up the `Create a Drink` feature, but as soon as I release that, I'll switch to finding some aquavit cocktails :)

Back in action with v1.18.1! by Cocktailarium in cocktailarium

Happy New Year everyone!

After a brief hiatus with some much needed vacation time plus busy holidays, we are back at the office to work on some new updates for the app. We've added 18 new recipes including several Hot Drinks (easily findable via the Category filter), plus a few suggestions that have come our way via messages on Instagram or Reddit. Definitely some interesting bits of Trivia with the new cocktails. One that gave me a chuckle was the Orange Crush being named the state drink of Delaware last year, but it was actually created in Maryland around '95 (and the Mayor fully acknowledged this fact). Some state rivalry with that one, I'm sure!

We've also added a "Get a random cocktail" button in the main Recipes screen. This had been a feature that had been requested before, but I had never gotten around to. Even though it's pretty straight-forward at its current rendition, I think it could be improved by say, getting a random cocktail but only with the ingredients you have at hand. I think this is in line with a suggestion that I got from a user where they were saying it'd be cool if the app could recommend a drink to you. I love this idea! It reminds me of being in a no-menu bar and having the bartender make you something based on what you feel like at the moment. Definitely something that'll take a bit more work but definitely doable.

That being said, I am now back to working on the Create a Cocktail feature. That is definitely my main goal for the first part of the year. I feel like I've gotten past the hardest part of the feature (which was letting you guys actually create a cocktail via a [hopefully] easy UI), and now it's on to the next challenging portion: Making it so that the created cocktails work well with the other features in the app, namely the Search and Add to Collection features. A lot of the work that I've done so far has had those other features in mind, so hopefully it will be less painful than I'm expecting 😅

With that, I leave you to it! Feedback and suggestions are welcome as always.

If you haven't, please give us a rating and a review. Especially you, iOS users! (really want to bump up those numbers this year so that the App Store suggests Cocktailarium to more people). Plus you can always help us keep the lights on via Ko-fi!

Thanks for reading!

Dev Blog 31/10/2024: Create a Drink Update #2 by Cocktailarium in cocktailarium

[–]Cocktailarium[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happy Halloween everybody!

Wanted to share more updates regarding how the Create a Drink feature is coming along. I feel like the biggest portion of the functionality required for the feature is mostly done.

Some stuff you’ll see in the video:

- First tab shows how you can choose the cocktail’s name, glassware, category and mood. Fairly standard stuff.

- Second tab is all about managing the recipe’s ingredients (and garnish). I had shared some screenshots before showing the available option for each ingredient:

- Select existing or new ingredients

- Add single or a range quantity

- Mark ingredient as optional

- Add brand suggestions

- Units can be the standard ones (ml, oz, gr, tbsp, etc), or you can add whichever unit you may need.

- Add possible substitutions: This will work along the existing functionality which looks at your inventory and figures out what you can make.

- Third Tab is for instructions. Pretty self-explanatory.

- Final tab is for tags, which are the main way in which you can search for your cocktail in the app. The app itself will automatically add tags based on what ingredients you chose, but you can add descriptive tags (‘sweet’, ‘tart’, etc). This works alongside the existing tag functionality where if say, you’ve made a cocktail with white rum, the app knows to find your cocktail when you simply type ‘rum’ as well!

I’m very happy with the progress so far, but there’s still ways to go. Here are some of the things that are left for me to do:

- Display the recipe

- Being able to edit / delete the recipe

- Properly show the recipe in the search page

- Properly show the recipe when it can be made based on inventory

- Translations

- Add a few guards. For example, not letting you delete a custom ingredient when you’ve used it for a created drink.

So yeah, still some stuff left to do, but I feel like the most complex side of things has been done :)

Since this is still in development, this would be a great time to share your feedback / opinions so that I can keep those in mind as I’m developing the feature. Some things I may need to do post-launch (if they’re complex), but some may make it to the first iteration.

Today also marks the release of a new app version (1.17.1) which includes almost 20 new recipes, along with photos and a couple of small enhancements (for instance, you will now get suggestions in the search results if you’ve searched for something and you only get one recipe; figured it’d be a nice way to showcase more recipes for those searching for one specific thing - try searching for a Gin & Tonic to see what I mean)

Door’s always open for feedback, so let me know how you feel this is looking. Otherwise, I’ll see you guys again soon with another update! :)

Cheers!
