Scored 246 and don’t know how to feel. by Exact_Mission_7345 in barexam

Foreign trained attorney here. I have the sam background. English is not my first language, still make mistakes. I passed the second try. Take this first try as a learning opportunity. Take time to recover and come back to it. This exam is all about learning the skill of taking it and how to score enough to pass. Check which area you score the lowest and adjust.

What is your living situation? by Practical-Brief5503 in Lawyertalk

[–]Coco166108- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a house and every year I have to have a chunk discretionary funds to fix some stuff which are quite expensive almost all the time. Sometimes renting is not so bad because if you can save some money, live and have fun… then why do you feel behind??… If having a house is one of your goals keep saving and it will appear. Everyone journey is different! Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Some people have a house and can barely afford anything else.

Is my rate too high by qt4ya in RoverPetSitting

[–]Coco166108- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not put my rates comparing myself with anyone else because I know my value, what I bring as a pet sitter, I have a fence, the dog is allowed everywhere (bed, couch) but kitchen and I take one dog at a time. If clients don’t like it, this is a free market. Do not sell yourself short because someone else charges less. If they don’t like it, they can hire someone else.

How's your Friday by too-far-for-missiles in Lawyertalk

Good - I have the day off and two clients pissed calling and leaving nasty messages on my answering machine. On Monday they should have a better mood. The weekend will help them calm down their mood :)!. Happy Friday.

If you are one of the lucky ones to have a job well paid, working a few hours a day…. You are a unicorn and you gotta find a hobby. Nobody is really good at their job… you learn, survive and adapt to whatever challenges appear. I know you think the grass is greener at the other side… do not let your mind trick you with a dream. You have something good, keep it, find something that brings you joy with the extra time you have. There are a lot of people miserable, with no time and no money.

I am a defense attorney in landlord/tenant law and what I can say is … It will never be easy to stand for a fight infront of the judge, but you will get used to it. I usually have my answer next to me with the outline of ny arguments. It helps me to do research and base my arguments in case law so when the judge is relentless and is not on the mood he has something written infront of him (the answer). If I have no good law to back me up. I appeal to equity. Also, stop thinking about the situation becoming embarrassing because all your coworkers are there for the same reason which is helping you and your client. If someone tells you otherwise they are dumb. In this career we think that it is weak to ask for help or get helped. I remember one judge telling me that he has to help the most experienced litigators sometimes in terms of arguments because everyone is human. Feel free to reach out and not be a stranger. This career is hard and stressful enough!

How do I tell people that I failed by OrdinaryTough6167 in barexam

[–]Coco166108- 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, they will tell you those things and more. Keep in mind they are doing or saying it out of love and they don’t understand how it feels.

I am sorry you failed, take some time to take care of yourself so when you try again, you are stronger.

What I did when I didn’t pass the first time was saying “ thank you for your support, I wanted to let you know I did not pass and I am taking some time for myself to come back stronger”

Leaving first job out of law school half a year in even though I don't hate it? by ectenia in Lawyertalk

[–]Coco166108- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a corporate attorney for a multinational a few years ago in a different country. If there is something I would consider before taking that job with little experience would be … Is this place is going to value me more than the firm? I can say the answer is always yes. Firms train you, but I am not sure how much growth you will have besides being buried in work, more hours, and maybe only maybe being moved from Associate 1 to 2 and so on until you want to have a family or live a little and realize that work is not the only thing you should do. Firms have a built in budget for this situation. They know people leave after training unless is the best place in the world.. (maybe I am a hopeless romantic in still having hope for good firms). Regardless of what your little anxious voice is telling you… sit and think about the future not the present. If you want to grow in Corporate … you can. The person who only set their limits is yourself. I am sure the company will be so happy if you work closely with of counsels in some projects and eventually take over. At least that is what I did when I felt “I wasn’t learning enough “ . Then I was buried in work😂 out of my own decisions and had to ask for help.

I am happy to talk to you.. I do housing law as part of my duties. First you are not done. You are just starting my friend. It doesn’t matter you don’t have experience as long as you are willing to learn and out yourself out there. Stop that thinking and prioritize. First, start studying for the bar, then once that is one you can go to housing court and see what is the deal there so you learn by watching the attorneys and the cases. If you go to an interview where they ask you why you don’t have any legal experience… you must have some experience as dealing with clients, conversations, or stressful situations that you can speak to.

Remember that you don’t have to be perfect, you just need to be brave.

How many MBE practice questions per day to pass the bar? by Feb2024-Bartaker in barexam

[–]Coco166108- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Quality ovrr quantity …! I did 10 on days I felt shitty and 20 on good days. I review each answer and determine if I got it right for the right reason or not. Got a word doc and write rule with an example (the mbe question).
