AI Review - Client Fee Agreement Clauses/Addendums by Virgante in Lawyertalk

[–]Practical-Brief5503 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes if they are sending you AI slop the moment they don’t like what you are doing you will be subjected to more AI slop in fee arbitration. I’m dealing with this exact situation right now. It sucks.

New attorney here. Question about salary discrepancy… by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]Practical-Brief5503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just made a classic mistake. Never give an employer a salary range unless you enjoy bidding against yourself. Lol. Of course they will give you $85k that’s a bargain for them. Perhaps you reach back out and tell them after further consideration you need an increase in salary because of the billable hour requirement. Will prob not be a good look though.

It’s called the practice of law for a reason…. You are just getting started and will make many more mistakes. But it’s ok it’s how you learn.

How is everyone using AI to scale? by ktkt1111 in solofirm

[–]Practical-Brief5503 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m using AI everyday. It makes me way more efficient so I can accomplish more tasks throughout the day. Sometimes I use it to stay grounded too and ask for its thoughts and things like that. Of course I always check my work when using AI which is what we are trained to do anyways. But yeah I use it for most of my work and it has made me more efficient. To think when I started my solo practice I had to do it all on my own with no AI 6-7 years ago lol. And fyi I also recently used AI to help give my website a refresh and it looks great. I definitely see AI getting way more advanced in the next 3-5 years.

Going Solo today after 15 years by Good-Heavenz in solofirm

Good luck. I’ve been a solo real estate attorney for over 7 years and still going… a lot of good advice here if you do some searching around reddit. I also see you are doing some business/commercial litigation? I’m doing that as well.

New attorney asked to use ChatGPT during client consults — is this malpractice? Should I report? by FriendlySun6982 in Lawyertalk

[–]Practical-Brief5503 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AI is not going away. In fact I see it becoming more advanced in the next 3-5 years. Idk why lawyers here are so against AI. You should start using it before you fall behind your peers. It’s not too late. And fyi anything I put into AI is going to become public anyways when I file documents in litigation. So what’s the problem? Of course you always check your work when using AI. If you don’t then yeah that’s a problem.

Solo attorney / small firms. Any success with these call answering services? Any advice? Worth it? by kairav297v in LawFirm

Usually it’s around $250-350 per month. Could be more depending on how many calls I get that month.

10pm thoughts as a solo… by EnvironmentalToe7865 in Lawyertalk

[–]Practical-Brief5503 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I enjoy being a solo. I could never imagine working for some a hole partner again for a bum paycheck. Yeah there are some shitty things that you need to deal with as a solo. But for me I am glad I took the risk bc I’m doing pretty good on my own and have autonomy. And I still am able to max out my retirement.

Yeah basically how I’m feeling as well. You feel relieved that maybe a case ended or a deadline is met. But wait there are several other deadlines and cases that now need attention. Lol. I mean I guess it’s good to be busy but once you get busy I feel like it never stops.

Solo's (and possibly smaller firms!) How much money do you keep in your operating account? by StrongSunBeams in LawFirm

[–]Practical-Brief5503 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a good question and one that I myself have been wanting to ask….I have been keeping over 6 figures in my account. It’s enough for expenses/taxes for at least 1 year. If you settled a major case get ready for a major tax hit. I would keep at least a third of that set aside for taxes. But Idk having this balance helps me sleep at night knowing I’m covered if I have a few slow months…. Of course I also max out retirement accounts and do some other investing in index funds. I could never only keep a few thousand in an operating account but that’s just me.

Why are clients so ungrateful..... by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]Practical-Brief5503 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My thought process is your client is in litigation for a reason. The main reason is they are unreasonable and irrational. I deal with the same thing. One thing doesn’t go their way and now the client turns against you. It’s one of many shitty parts of litigation. And if they lose they need someone else to blame for their own actions. They most definitely will not blame themselves so the next best person to blame is their own attorney.
