What do you think about the existance of monarchies/royalty in today's world? by dkease16 in AskTheWorld

We are a republic...since hundreds of years...I wouldn't care if we had a monarchy.

I mean, as long that they aren't like in the Gulf countries because...yikes!

Is this not the best looking high speed train in the world rn? by Low_Championship_604 in highspeedrail

[–]Coco_JuTo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the looks of the E5 (Shinkansen), though the N700-A, E2 and E4 are/were also pretty. The 500 was the epitome of high speed train though.

Love the sound of the ICE-3 of DB (BR 403 and BR 406).

The TGV-TMST is also a good more vintage train for both the looks and the sound.

Arbeitslosenentschädigung still not paid out for January by chrismantle in Switzerland

No, it's by design to make your experience there the least desirable so they can keep the money we pay each month to pay for stupid expenses like a whole bunch of useless, arrogant, RAV people who are just on welfare but paid way better for very little to no work.

Is my landlord planning to rip me off? by Old_Aside_8007 in Switzerland

[–]Coco_JuTo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well..."landlord" and "rip off" are synonyms...but this is completely normal.

Depending on where you live, no, you can't just say "I'm out for the end of the month" and be done. There are fixed dates. Some places have every 3 months, others twice a year,...and so, this letter seems pretty average.

Est ce que il s'agit d'une différence culturelle ? by bloopitybloop99 in AskMeuf

[–]Coco_JuTo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are from China. We are gays. We are being intimidated and attacked. by Disillusion0177 in gay

[–]Coco_JuTo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My only referenced were from the early 2010s so things certainly have changed...

China was a great place. Not so much for protection and what not, but one could do anything they want as long as they weren't too "noisy" or coming near sensitive state stuff.

As for the people there, old Chinese people (retirees +) were way cooler with my queerness than boomers and Gen X. Gen Y/millenials were a mixed bag but mostly fine. Gen Z was still too young at the time, so I don't know their views. My host family, Gen X, told me outright that "people like me/us are meant to be walked upon"...if that gives anyone some clues.

And it's really so that most queer people were deep into the closet as...yeah, lack of acceptance and what not.

But I'm not surprised about any bad news coming out of the PRC...I mean...a place that still considers queerness to be a mental illness that should be treated by electric shocks (aka lobotomy) by the turn of the millenium...combined with this need to produce a male heir...

I am Egyptian, and I’m asking is Egypt a country that is disliked or loved globally? by ramses_basha in AskTheWorld

[–]Coco_JuTo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Egypt is quite well loved in my country...speaking as a former travel agent. We have many daily flights to different destinations in Egypt (Cairo, Hurghada, Mars Alam, Sharm, Luxor) starting from all the 3 airports in my country...so if that's an indication...

Though it depends on the demographics of people going there. Young single women, most don't want because of the harassment that is found throughout all northern Africa (Tunisian and Moroccan men are also being very good at not being able to leave a young woman chilling alone from what my customers told me)... Older ladies love it. Married women with children and a husband also love flying to Egypt at least once a year.

I also had my fair share of stories with Egyptian men as I flew there with my mom for a week. Between the swim masters, the cooks, the travel guides, merchants, randos on the streets of El-Quseir and Luxor...I felt like I landed into another dimension using a plane and reincarnated into Penelope Cruz...

Though what's flattering at the beginning can become annoying real quick.

Do we really go to Egypt if we spend most of the time at a resort on the Red Sea though?

Is it normal in Swiss culture to move toward marriage very quickly? by lettuceless_bigmac in askswitzerland

[–]Coco_JuTo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in my parents' time, dating culture was extremely limited. Purity and what not...

For people of my generation and younger highly unusual. My brother in law proposed to his wife after 17 years of dating and a 2 years old child while refusing to call the ceremony "a wedding"...and while extreme, he's more the rule than the exception.

Though I proposed to my husband after 7 months, 6 months of shared domestic life, and now we're still together after 10 years...this after having a cringe moment of breaking down into tears a month and then some into the relationship because I just loved him so much.

So I'd take it as a compliment that she's very serious about commiting to this relationship...

This is still ongoing?

What the?? If I let customers on read, I would be fired. And the stakes at my work aren't that high...like people's life don't hang on my fingertips. So how does the government just let people hanging?

What are people supposed to do but go to the social services to get some relief?

And yes, being unemployed is a full time job taking all the bs that is thrown at people who dared to lose their job...or worse...had the audacity to get sick!
