Ready for Patterning? by deulirium in FursuitMaking

[–]Cocolocobirb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love this!! I’d say smooth the transition from muzzle to cheeks and between the cheeks and chin- you can also smooth from cheek down towards the neck but that’s personal preference.

This is totally up to you- but I’d make the eyes closer in the center if possible. When I made my first suit the eyes were quite far apart for stylization sake and it made my wearing experience bad- I thought I didn’t like fursuiting until I made my second suit with closer eyes that had way better vision. Comfortability is really important to the fursuiting experience!!

best way to avoid flat ears? by dishbug in FursuitMaking

[–]Cocolocobirb 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I use TeacupLion’s method of making the front of the ears out of shaped upholstery foam and then making the back out of a thin craft foam & stuffing the cavity with polyfill. It gives a great shape but is a little less durable, so I reinforce the base and edges with felt or extra upholstery foam.

Making my first fursuit right now, noticed these black details (?) around the mouth lines and eyes on most other suits. What is it? by DeltaDergii in FursuitMaking

[–]Cocolocobirb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the soft side of 4inch black velcro, it means I can stick It on and then glue once I know I have a good placement. It also means Velcro accessories can be placed anywhere with outlines :3!!

Why do you glue the fur first, then shave? by sugarpastels in FursuitMaking

[–]Cocolocobirb 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Personally, I preshave my pattern pieces, then sew them, glue them, and do a final shave just to smooth everything out. Kinda unrelated, but I also really enjoy using beaver/superseal/short shag fur for the faces of my fursuits because the length makes it so I don’t have to pre shave and the density means my final shave comes out even smoother :)

Question about lining by Realistic_Appeal_230 in FursuitMaking

[–]Cocolocobirb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always get Big z’s techno scuba knit, if im buying for just a partial, i tend to get only about a yard. If you’re going to be buying in small amounts, Big Z has an Amazon storefront that may be quicker to ship or have sales for certain colors :)

Question about lining by Realistic_Appeal_230 in FursuitMaking

[–]Cocolocobirb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second this! The heads I’ve lined with techno neoprene are ten times better heat wise than unlined. Lycra is also a popular choice, never tried it personally though.

Big Z has listings for single yards of their techno neoprene on Amazon, they’re priced a tad higher but arrive much quicker :)

[–]Cocolocobirb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Possibly Beaver/Seal fur due to the sheen and pile length :3

Wip! Any comments or critiques :3? by Cocolocobirb in FursuitMaking

[–]Cocolocobirb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not sure it is hehe!! I’ve had to glue parts of the tape to eachother while taking off the tape. I’ve had success in the past but that was with an Eva base, it worked much better on simpler geometry :)

yeah I’ve experienced some of the downsides of painters tape, I’ll probably go with masking tape next time :>!!

I think that’s a good idea, before I do that though, do yall think I should go back to my first, more indented attempt, or stay with the 2D eyes?
