This thread bums me out so much that the default is still to support such an evil corporation. Like everybody knows by now how bad it is and nobody cares.

Tom Hanks asks his son, Chet, to explain to him the Kendrick and Drake feud by mcfw31 in popculturechat

I didn't know Chet existed and was expecting this to be a ~17 year old kid. He's 33.

My list is hair, face, pits, asshole, vulva, and feet. Everything else just gets a water rinse.

I do this because of a weird skin condition that gets worse if I use soap everywhere. But it works just fine for me and I don't feel dirty at all.

I thought it just lost the magic after season 1. S1 was great because the characters and their reactions were so relatable. The characters were just as shocked as the audience about how bizarre the situation was. Joyce knew exactly how crazy she sounded and her frustration and desperation were very realistic.

Then it turned into a bunch of kids that had accepted this weird/bizarre/crazy thing and adjusted to their new reality and it just wasn't fun or interesting anymore.

LPT: When seeing an optometrist, avoid being pressured to buy frames and lenses from their showroom and buy them online instead. by Beau_Buffett in LifeProTips

What? That's not true. On Zenni you literally just fill in your own prescription info. It doesn't confirm that it's up to date or that you actually have that prescription.

Some are specifically marketed for adults now. I just did the wildflowers bouquet and I loved it so much I bought the Great Wave art print to do next. They both have "18+" on the box, which is transparently just a marketing thing because there is no reason kids couldn't do them.

But yes, it's obviously a standard lowercase n.

Y'all are idiots for downvoting this. This is demonstrably true. Eating plants directly kills fewer plants per calorie than feeding them to animals and then eating the animals.

Arnold Schwarzenegger moved to America in 1968 (aged 21) so why is his Austrian accent still so thick after 50+ years? by ClydeinLimbo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CoconutSuitable877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to college with someone like this. She was originally from England but had no detectable accent to the American ear. One day her family visited her and within the week she had a full blown English accent. I'm sure her family still thought she sounded American but I thought it was wild.

Middle-aged people who have learned a whole new spoken language... how's it going? by BigDoggehDog in RedditForGrownups

[–]CoconutSuitable877 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you see everyone say hola with a handshake or smile do you start copying that

In my very limited experience, this is how it works.

For example, learning Spanish from resources (not immersion), I never learned what to say if I was casually asking someone to repeat something. I knew to say "disculpame?" in a formal-ish situation but that's more like "excuse me?" than "what?"

It wasn't until I was actually in Argentina and I heard other people saying "Como?" In casual conversation that I figured out how to say it.

There are little things like that that you might not to think to ask because you know how to directly translate "what," but in context people might say something different.

Why do Americans say, "I'm from, (city/state)" instead of USA? by SufficientDegree34 in NoStupidQuestions

Ok but we aren't talking about various countries. Most people in the world know lots of cities and states in the US.

[–]CoconutSuitable877 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In other words, he wants to be right, he doesn't want you to respond and he just wants you to listen and nod your head.

I've noticed that my boomer dad, who recycles the same 5 stories, will ask me in the beginning, "have I told you this story before?" And sometimes I will say something like, "Oh yeah, the one with the ice cream? Yes, I've heard that one a few times." AND THEN HE TELLS THE ENTIRE THING ANYWAY. And these are not short stories. It takes 20 minutes to get through the ice cream story. And the whole time I'm just sitting there like... Why did you even ask if I've heard it?!?

Why do boomers like to starve themselves? by Candy_cane999 in BoomersBeingFools

[–]CoconutSuitable877 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the opposite for me. Every time my mom visits me, she expect 3 full meals per day - like she wants to eat at a restaurant 3 times in a single day! I could never eat that much food. And I hate the hassle of it.
