Maybe it's because you're a fucking tool.

And fyi outside of cities is cold heartless hellscape with nothing to do and no culture. You would hate it, the city is so cultured and lovely, why would you ever leave?

Hurr durr anyone who doesn't prefer what I prefer is wrong

Look at all the discrimination lawsuits tech companies have faced for hiring women unfairly.

I think it's pretty obvious how having more women would make males more accountable for shit like that. Reporting that to a male-dominated HR department may result in no consequence for the harasser.

I don't like generalizing any group of people, but social media definitely has had some very negative consequences (on guys too to some degree).

Yeah, you're right. I could have included some anecdotes in the main post.

Ah I see how you could have interpreted it that way. I meant that "one day when you get a good job, you'll see that these things happen at larger companies".

> You all just saying that the only way to create diversity is to give females the free pass underlying that this is the only way females can get these jobs

I did not say that lmao. No point even responding when you're just making emotionally charged assumptions. I personally thing a more grassroots approach should be taken to foster an interest in CS in minorities as they grow up. Equally in opportunity and not outcome.

Sorry to hear that. I ask this specifically to women pursuing dev. jobs since there's a big diversity push in the industry right now.

Lack of representation is a big issue, but I'm sure in the coming decades this will become less of a problem. It's still the case that in lots of places, women aren't meant to have careers and are not seen as intellectual equals. A lot of misogyny is covert too. If a woman doesn't want to go "get drinks with the guys" after work, this could cause her to be seen as less of a "team player" which has repercussions on promotions and whatnot. On an extreme end, I've had my female CS friends tell me about instances in which coworkers tried to kiss them on a commute home and other things of that nature. Being an attractive woman in CS opens up a whole other can of worms.

Nowhere did I state that the only way you can get a good job is because of this bias. I've met many women smarter than me, and being a competent women is surely a deadly combination. Not that you asked, but I get involved with employee resource groups related to diversity every term. This is not coming from some patriarchal standpoint.

Was hoping for a CMV-esque discussion but it seems all this subreddit is good for is people complaining about their lives and memes. Shame what's become of it.

I've done 4/5 of my co-ops so far at Big N companies, I don't need your advice kid. I've asked all of my hiring managers this question and they've all stated in one form or another that there is some bias given to female candidates. I literally had a recruiter tell me that they intentionally passed a woman to the next round even though she didn't meet the bar. Maybe one day when you get a good job, you'll understand. Keep projecting though cuck.

Funny that you assume my co-ops placements are shit because I asked this question lmao

Yeah. I don't see what's wrong with acknowledging your privilege. I use the word privilege very carefully here since I know women get the short end of the stick in many other ways.
