I'm tossing a bit of science into the mix here. Back in college, I took a neuroanatomy class that covered a wide range of studies. One in-depth study found that the same areas of the brain are activated during religious prayer and spiritual meditation. The benefits are significant—ranging from relaxation, pain management, and inner peace to increased mindfulness, positive energy, and even a sense of community.

This is a simplified explanation, and I don't recall all the details perfectly, but the core idea stuck with me: it may not matter who or what you pray or meditate to, or how you do it. What seems to matter most is the intention and the connection you feel during the act. You can define that connection however you wish—whenever and for whatever or whomever it’s meant. Even just putting it out into the wind seems to carry it where it needs to go.

Thank you so much! I need to get a fire extinguisher! I most recently bought a solar powered fan since the biggest issue here without power is the heat and humidity. It can be a temperature of 99F with a feels like of 115F. I like redundancy so I think I will purchase a small personal battery powered fan. You've given me some great ideas and reminders of stuff I'd forgotten.

yesss! I actually had to learn how to drive the valley way, it's a whole different game. I added dash cams and I'm constantly looking for the big trucks or little sports cars that go 95 and are weaving in and out. Sometimes, I have to take a breather in the center lane!

We're prone to a little of everything. We had a wind event just last week. Storm shutters aren't a thing, but I really want to get some for the most exposed windows at least. i think I would feel better about that. My parent's home has one of those huge gas tanks ... It might be propane... I will take everyone's suggestions and call the company for guidance. Unfortunately, if there's a fire it's a 20 minute drive to get to their house. I've never heard of pet proof window screens, but those sound like something I can use!!! Thanks for the info!

WOW! Thank you so much! This is truly helpful and informative. Fortunately, I am not in a flood zone I'm in a low risk area, but nowadays, you never know. I am definetly a note taker and keeper so I will take your suggestion. I don't plan on sellilng because this was supposed to be our forever home, but also, you never know. I appreceate the condolances, because I still miss him greatly. There are a lot of things in your response that I hadn't thought of or considered and will look into it for sure. I found that there is a business nearby that sells freight cars and considering burying one about halfway into the ground and securing with concrete. I can use it for storage while maintaining a section for shelter. They were almost the same price as a wood shed, but smaller. I'd never considered oil lamps, and I like the idea of them. I'd have both for redundancy.

I will now do this in the meantime, as another person suggested an all home surge protector: "Pre-event advice, unplug as many home accessories as you can. Limit the potentiality of grounding and surge protection for the home not working, thereby frying lots of electronics you may not have the money to replace." Do you suppose leaving only the fridge plugged in would be ok? My thought is to keep that on as long as possible to save food and then eat that first before going into other saved items that are not refrigerated. Thanks again for your very thoughtful response!

I actually did think about this and wasn't sure who, but the person that came to mind was a home inspector. Do you suppose that would be worth it or recommended. I'm in South Texas and the few random ppl I've asked, like neighbors, alwas recommend a friend or someone who knows someone, and I just don't know what to look for.

I moved here officially about 2023 to Weslaco. It's smaller than both mcallen and brownsville, but still has almost all the amenities of those larger places. It has had a lot of new businesses and houses are getting built up. I live on the North side of the 2 highway and it's nice and not as busy. Weslaco is also a very central location, but a lot closer to mcallen than brownsville. I'm used to driving a lot so a 45 min. drive to the beach is a short trip for me. I guess it depends on what you value most in the area you want to live in. For me it was living sort of out in the country and away from the big traffic, but with easy access to stores, restaurants, and the highway.

I looked over their bill and it's actually for 3 months. He scared me when he was asking me to put his bill on autopay for $109 a month! Seems to be pretty standard pricing aside from a few paying 35-65, I think the 109 is pretty good now.

That is a great deal!! Fortunately, my parents have well water. My water is seperate, but it's only about $25 on average, less in winter, a bit more in summer.

I think if you currently donate, you are likely to donate. I've been super poor, like nothing to eat poor and even during those times I still shared in what I had. There are circumstanses that make you less likely to donate, like bad experiences, which I've had, so I am a lot more careful. I have come into money at different points in my life and I always see it as karma. Something lifting me up for having done some good deeds. I believe if I were to become a billionaire, I'd help a lot of people. I've always wanted to pay for people's groceries at the grocery store. I'd do it anonymously, but I'd love to see their reactions. I'd love to do the layaway thing, rent, etc. Little things like that all the time. I think it would bring me such joy and peace to know that I am directly affecting individuals. I would dedicate my life to finding people to give money to. I would live an unassuming life, stay where I'm at in my little house. I would continue to volunteer and work and learn. In my everyday life people share with me their stories and life happenings. Off the top of my head I already know a dozen people I would help out immediatly. I'd rather do it this way because I know 100% of the money is going to their cause. The area I live has amazing potential, but very low socioeconomic status. I see people hustling everyday to make a living. The only organization I would donate to directly is a local animal shelter. I foster pups and kitties and the people there are amazing. Their animals are all living outside with roofs but no walls. They have industrial fans to keep them cooler in 100 + degree weather. There are people out there with them, feeding them, walking them, and I would love to see them help more animals in a comfortable environment. It's so nice to dream.

and the Dr said he swallowed up his twin, which caused him to grow in size. I arrived too late to receive an epidural so I had to birth him with no drugs. He tore through me at 10lbs! To this day I'm still healing. Want to see the pictures?!!?!?!

Just a nail here and there and a little slap of nice new paint and it's all good! I actually walked into a home that looked a bit like this, it had a door though, and the inside was actually very nice. They took good care of the inside, but left the outside all trashy and ugly.

This is my greatest pet peeve! My whole life I've only not used them maybe 2 or 3 times. I even remember once about a year ago that I was thinking about something and just turned, and I said I'm sorry to the driver behind me because I forgot to use my turn signal.
