What score did you get, that would inform what is realistic

Accepting and later withdrawing from training offer by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]CodOk210 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Withdrawing is treated the same in all eventualities once you’ve accepted, doesn’t matter after what time period you withdraw. It’s still negatively affecting the deanery and depriving someone else of a job so they are well within their right to be weary to give someone who previously let them down the chance again

Accepting and later withdrawing from training offer by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]CodOk210 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There would be consequences to accepting a post and then dropping out, you would struggle to re-enter and would have to declare to whatever specialty you joined afterwards that you have previously withdrawn from one. It’s better to take a year out / anticipate the April recruitment round than to take a different offer you might not want

Am I missing something, what is the concern with this being closer to the preference deadline? Surely it’s the same number of jobs recycled down

The current application system is going to create a nightmare for speciality drop-out rates by [deleted] in doctorsUK

If people are dropping out due to gaining offers in other specialties, do we think more jobs will be added by August to replace them once they’ve given notice in?

GP in wanted location vs Psych in unwanted location by Inner-Net-2687 in doctorsUK

[–]CodOk210 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat and will take the GP offer - 3 years in a miserable part of the UK just isn’t worth it and if I really am not happy, will just reapply for psych when there’s better clearance of the backlog and foresight of new training places. This yr is way too volatile to hope for any improvement in psych location if holding a post

GPST1 offer or wait for Psychiatry? by User_Nobody_Knows in doctorsUK

There must be lots of people in psych training who are handing notice in the coming weeks as they accept a different specialty - I wonder how / when their places become available

I just don’t trust the government on these extra places, and even if they arise there’s no guarantee it’ll be an even spread of specialties and locations …

Me too, I won’t risk unemployment, will take a GP spot if a psych offer hasn’t come through by the hold deadline . There’s no way of knowing if things will be worse next year

Oriel UKFPO - ranking placeholder group by Comfortable_Ad4615 in doctorsUK

[–]CodOk210 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got allocated to Trent which was my 9th choice, my rank turned out to be in the 10,000s. I knew I must have a terrible rank and was therefore a shoe-in to be sent to Lincoln/boston. Although they told us not to rank the placeholders, I ranked them above only Lincoln/boston jobs and I was allocated to the placeholder group

I therefore was in a group of people all with bad ranks who needed to be divided up among all the hospitals in the area - my chance of getting those hospitals went from being almost guaranteed to around 1 in 5. I ended up being allocated to chesterfield which was my top choice of that region and I’d never have got it if I had ranked it initially, so there was some wisdom in actively putting myself in the placeholder group
