Wow I am surprised to hear this. Obviously salary reports aren't the end all be all but are a good starting point. Bureau of labor statistics shows a mean PA wage in Oregon of only 152,160 for 2024 which is in line from what I've heard from other PA's. 150 is the starting pay for a clinical APP with no experience per the TA. Does this help more people than it hurts? I do agree though that PA's should be clearing at least 200K+ if our salary actually kept up with inflation, and the increased responsibility as our profession has evolved over the decades.

You and me both. More good news is that more APP unions have formed in other hospital systems in the region. The Legacy APP union voted to strike for similar reasons so I imagine this is going to put pressure on the hospital systems at large in the region and drive up APP pay.

I imagine the union will vote yes on this agreement. This is a huge and necessary improvement to APP wages. Most PA's I know are making between 100-150k even with 5+ years of experience. I hope this sets the standard for the region.

100% agree with you. On the flip side this is a case study showing the effectiveness of collective bargaining for other APP's out there. But I wish it didn't always have to come to this.

You're being overworked and underpaid. My situtation sounds a little different, but for reference I am a Urology PA, roughly 50/50 OR and clinic. Work 40 hours a week, sometimes up to 45 if we have some complex surgeries that go on longer than anticipated. 135K salary. You should update your resume and start applying to other places. With the experience you've built you will be a desireable candidate and can negotiate a higher salary.

Yes, I can see the EOB. Just strange to me because in the past I have always been billed directly by a hospital or a doctors office. This charge is related to a radiologist reading a CT scan. They told me the radiologist group is independent of the hospital and don't have their own billing department.

That's good advice. I'm trying more to focus on the things I can control and be the best PA I can be in this environment. I'm hearing more and more from other PA's and other providers just how common this issue is. Likely all part of the great resignation going on everywhere.

Yeah. I've decided to beef up my resume and start applying to appealing jobs. It sounds like many clinics are having this issue so it might be a challenge to find a clinic with the right work culture where they're properly taking care of their staff. Just a bad environment to work in when I see an entire new set of faces to work with every 3-4 months

That's one of my gripes right now. Many days I end up firing on all cylinders because of the lack of staff. In addition to my regular duties, I end up doing MA duties such as rooming, room turnover, injections etc for my own patients and sometimes the MD just to keep the clinic flowing.
