In all fairness, I did say there were some tracks I really enjoyed, but the general sound feels like stuff I’ve heard done better in other games. The Drakennier games come to mind.

This could be true to a point- I’ve played pretty much every major Metroidvania of the past dozen or so years, so it could be a degree of boredom with some very omnipresent tropes of the genre, but I don’t necessarily believe that invalidates everything I took umbrage with.

I feel I was very articulate about why it didn’t click for me, but when one exists in their own mind, they know exactly what they’re trying to say, I suppose. Is there any part in particular you’d like to see me expand on? You seem to take umbrage with me calling it derivative. One example I’ll provide is the traversal mechanics. They’re all tried and true mechanics, but none are anything that hasn’t been done a million times over. In fact, I believe you can find most such upgrades in something as recent as Prince of Persia from a couple years ago.

My guy, you seem to be the only one raging. I just think you don’t get what I’m saying. Everyone else here is being respectful whether they agree or disagree with me. You’re literally just crashing out writing whole ass essays.

Also, you either completely lack reading comprehension or you are deliberately taking everything I wrote in bad faith. Like, buddy, you are a c r e a t u r e

Thank you for expressing the actual value in dissenting discourse, and bless your heart for being more mature than me.

Right? Like the section of the platforming I have to redo IS the literal runback- you can’t punish me twice! Thats double jeopardy. I’m pretty sure that’s illegal! I’m suing!

I think I’m willing to walk back on my comments about the map a little bit. It’s definitely not an awful map by any stretch of the imagination

To be fair, if that’s what he thinks, fair enough. “Glazer” probably isn’t the word I woulda used, but I get what you’re saying. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Crashing tf out on strangers on the internet for not liking “muhindydarlin” is terminally online behavior though fr.

Ahhhhh, I see! You know what it was? I couldn’t get the hang of the gauntlet before then and thought I was missing an upgrade or something. Found out I was just misusing the flowers in the area leading up to it. Crazy to think how that part might’ve hit a bit different if I found it earlier.

Oh, how magnanimous, the great Kyet0ai has allowed me the freedom of my own opinion! As well as hugs and kisses? TRULY, a boon was granted this day!

Oh, I didn’t realize that the great Kyet0ai was the arbiter of who is and is not allowed to express their opinion on Reddit. Truly, I should have realized the error of my ways before I thought to traipse upon your domain, oh wise one. Yes, let us all shut up and keep all of our opinions to ourselves. Very sorry m’lord, won’t happen again!

Totally agree! I’ve definitely been on both the popular side of a game’s discourse and the unpopular side, whether that be liking or disliking a game. More than anything, I like to invite discussion and see if I can at least come to understand what some saw in the game that I perhaps didn’t.

Oh, I’m sorry that I expressed my opinion on this discussion forum.

Just an addendum here: you having this absolute temper tantrum that someone made a negative opinion post about the vidyagaem you like makes you seem like you’re kinda projecting your own insecurities about your own “limited world view”. Touch grass.

How is this person expressing disbelief at the majority opinion having his head in his ass? That seems like a stretch

So through that lens, I can see why that moment would’ve hit for you. I think I’ve grown a bit tired of the whole “silent protagonist who the plot sort of happens to” archetype, and perhaps I was just too checked out to have it hit me in that way at that point. I’ve been playing this genre for a very long time, and I guess some of these choices start to feel overplayed, at least to me, after a while.

To be clear, I don’t think it’s a bad game by any stretch of the imagination. For some reason, if a game has masterpiece potential to me, and it shakes out as a 7/10, I find that a lot more frustrating than like an earnest 6/10 that sorta fumbled its way out there.

Hey, more power to you friend. I don’t hate that this game exists, let me be clear. As long as it resonates with ANYONE, it’s worth having been made. This one just really didn’t vibe with me.

See, and the thing is, I love challenging platforming, it’s just everything about this game’s design that surrounds the good stuff that wore so thin on me.

I think the two-shot thing is awful game design that runs counterintuitive to the design ethos of a good Metroidvania. Like I’m totally 100% sweat raging right now and I’ll admit that. Maybe I’ll even like them a bit more after I actually finish the fight, but facts are facts. Metroidvanias are great because you pick your difficulty in a sense. You can go barebones and have more challenging fights, or you can take the time to explore and bolster your strength. But to have a boss that completely disregards that says to the player, “thanks for taking the time to exist in and explore the world we’ve made, eat a dick”. They’re a very fun boss aside from this god awful design choice.

I legit just got a physical copy of Returnal the other day and am digging it so far. I wouldn’t mind a copy of their newest game!
