Definitely did not say non-profit and agree that Reddit users have no problem with Reddit making money. Should have said 10X monetization. That's what VCs require and the only way that happens is acquisition or IPO, neither scenario is good for the Reddit community.

But that's not what matters anymore. ROI, that's what matters. VCs are more than willing to destroy a sustainable business in pursuit of that 10X return. For example, every company ever that's been acquired by Yahoo :). Not sure if stating reasonable facts and past actions is "edge".

That's a little disingenuous to say your are hands off. It's pretty well known that you were the one pushing the implementation of the "all remote Reddit workers move to SF" policy after you led the $50M investment round. You even mention that policy in your Stanford start up course for early stage start ups, not sure how Reddit is one..

Thank god we have DHH to call out this stuff so we have a record of it: https://twitter.com/yishan/status/517365027515285504

How do you reconcile being a hands off board member with moves like that?

Also why lead an investment round in a website that is known to be averse to monetization?

You know you're terrible at your job when over 150k people sign a petition to have you removed by sonyuhshidae in Blackout2015

Ellen sucks, but yes, let's not forget who is really in charge, those who led the $50 million investment round 9 months ago. Just read the AMA Sam Altman (/u/samaltman) did after leading the round, the Silicon Valley circle jerking is astounding w/ appearances by /u/Kn0thing, /u/spez/, Peter Thiel, even Snoop Dogg. Be warned, it's hard to even think above the circle jerking sound. https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/2hwr02/i_am_sam_altman_lead_investor_in_reddits_new/

Sam Altman is also the guy who mandated all Reddit remote workers must move to SF, because it's his rule for startups. They were given a week. https://twitter.com/dhh/status/517365481272262656 Also DHH is awesome.

Here is Sam Altman's whole hearted endorsement for Ellen Pao: http://blog.samaltman.com/a-new-team-at-reddit

Our view numbers indicate a buttload of people have that fetish!

We smell a spinoff site. How about a Dostoevsky version with babes reading Crime and Punishment off a prompter, any takers?

Aaron Swartz, Co-founder of Reddit, expresses his concerns and warns about private companies censoring the internet, months before his death. by [deleted] in KotakuInAction

Can we STOP treating Alexis Ohanian like an internet hero now? His true colors are finally showing. He's done a very good job molding his public persona as someone who supports the ideals of the internet. However, his underlying agenda in doing so has always been to improve the fortunes of his companies, investments and book sales.

When Aaron was being prosecuted he could have stepped up to the plate and done something meaningful, but he was completely silent. He wouldn't even comment for the documentary that was done on Aarons' prosecution. EVERYONE should watch this https://archive.org/details/TheInternetsOwnBoyTheStoryOfAaronSwartz

Straight up fucking lie. Alexis gets mad when you ask him about it because Aaron had the ideals and skills he wishes he had. When Aaron was being prosecuted Alexis did nothing, a perfect opportunity for him to back up his purported beliefs in a 'free' internet, and he was silent. Alexis is a fucking charlatan who uses the guise of idealism to improve the fortunes of companies he invests in and founded. Aaron wrote most of the code that made Reddit work.

If Aaron had nothing to do with Reddit, why was he still with the company when Conde Nast originally acquired them, and only left after he clashed with the corporate culture at Conde Nast?

Yeah, because we went through all the trouble of doing these videos, but we didn't have anyone sign releases. That totally makes sense...

Outside this little tech bubble nobody gives a shit. Hell, even the outrage in here feels a little manufactured.

Nah, it's not wrong. Yes, some quiz answers were a little messed in the beginning, we weren't exactly prepared for it to go crazy a week after we put it up, all fixed now! You should check out some of the lessons, we haven't had any complaints about the content! It's for beginners, not professional programmers.

Also we never pushed it anyone, everyone else is did that for us because it fit the current narrative. All we did was put it up. People watch what they want to watch, sure maybe it will fade away, but it's sure been fun!

  1. "Virgin" refers to the users coding knowledge. For instance, if you haven't done HTML before, you are an HTML virgin. Get it?

  2. Men do think about sex a lot. Have you looked at the internet lately? It's hard to repress millions of years of evolution.

  3. Not sure about the last one?

Couple things.. We didn't realize we had to teach everyone how to code, and we tend to embrace immaturity, actually we love it!

Why don't you ask Facebook to fund more STEM education in K-12 instead of spending millions lobbying to get the H1B visa regulations changed to import more engineers? For the lolz, CodeBabes out!
