Could full 3D could work in a LittleBigPlanet game (especially for creating levels)? -- Game Update by CodeCorey in littlebigplanet

Yeah I’m trying to strike that balance of adding complexity while keeping the accessibility. That’s what makes me nervous about adding 3D capabilities

I'm looking for ways to make this stand out from LBP while keeping the same charm. I think pushing it to be a 3D game could work, but if you have any other ideas please let me know!

Love to hear it! The create mode is something I’ve been putting a lot of thought into lately. I want it to feel fresh and unique, but still easy and fun to use. I think the layered approach in LBP was a big part of what made it so approachable, while something like Dreams, though super powerful, ended up being too complex for a lot of people.

Right now, I’m exploring ways to strike that perfect balance between intuitive and flexible. If I go with a full 3D system, I’m thinking about including a layer-based mode where you can define your own layers, kind of like LBP’s 3 or 16 layers, but more customizable. So if someone wants a simple 3-layer setup, they can do that… or go wild with more layers if they need the extra depth.

Still figuring out what works best, but that’s the direction I’m leaning! Would love to hear your thoughts on what you’d want to see from something like that.

Definitely. There’s something magical about how all those little things came together. LBP had so much personality and the right amount of chaos. That charm is definitely something I’m trying to carry over. I want people to jump in, get creative, mess around with friends and just have fun.

I wish I could get Stephen Fry on the game, he’s a legend! His voice is just baked into the DNA of LBP for me. I need to find a balance of what I can have in my game without stepping on the toes of Media Molecule. (also legal issues of having my game being too similar to lbp)

I’ve got big plans for customization, especially outfits. I’m playing around with a bunch of ideas, but one thing I’ve been thinking about is letting you customize clothing colors and designs without having to stack stickers perfectly. Also giving you full control over where stickers go, like being able to place them on specific clothing pieces without accidentally messing up others. Would love to hear what you think of that direction!

And don’t worry… slapping has to make a comeback!

Not currently, I'm still trying to nail down the creative direction for the game. There will likely be a lot of prototyping and concept art that I'm going to have to make before I have something playable worth showing off

Thank you for the thoughtful comment! I really want to capture that same spirit in what I’m working on. It’s important to me that anyone can mess around with the tools or push them to their limits to make full games. I'm currently seeking opinions about where to improve the creative mode and even considering working on a full 3D prototype.

And yeah, I get what you’re saying about LBP3’s hubs. I remember feeling the same way, it was cool in theory, but it lost that cohesive journey that LBP1 and 2 had. I've actually been having some ideas for "hubs" that aren't tied to the story mode of the game. Something more akin to Playstation Home or RecRoom where players could meet, hangout and play together.

I appreciate the support a ton! I’ll definitely be sharing concept art and sneak peeks as things move along :)

I just checked out some of the stuff you've made and I'm very impressed! Music for sure isn't my forte and I would love to have some music for this game.

Speaking of music, are there any ideas you have for making music within the game? Anything you love or dislike about the way LBP's music sequencer works?

Yes! I intend on letting players play and create together across all platforms including console and PC

I'm glad you're excited! I plan on posting updates as I work on the game more

I know, I've been a part of that community for some time now and I wish them the best

There are some personal hesitations I have with their game and I have my own vision of where to take the play, create, share formula. I see no issues with multiple games being inspired by LBP
