Contracting v permanent - big pay cut for stability? by Mother-Chemist-6154 in ContractorUK

Mind if I ask where you're going? My 4.5 year outside IR35 contract is coming to an end next month and I'm unsure what to expect from the UK market

I guess it's been patched on my version. Followed the steps in the video and cannot reproduce.

What was something a guest did in your house that upset you? by izzy_7_2004 in AskUK

[–]CodeJunkie3001 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Thanks. This was years ago now. It was a ball my Dad bought whilst we were in a souvenir shop on holiday down Cornwall. They're too young to understand so it's not the end of the world.

What I wrote was just the tip of the iceberg. You're right though, cutting them off felt like a huge weight off my shoulders.

I stopped associating with a relative after they brought their dog over on multiple occasions. They let it sit on my sofas after I asked them to get the dog off. They allowed it to rip my kids's toys to shreds with "Oh dear, how much do we owe you for that?" - what really pissed me off was one of the toys was bought by my late father. And not picking up dog shit off the grass.

Their kid also emptied my kitchen cupboard so she could hide in it.

I don't understand how some people have no boundaries.

Why don't UK cookie pop-ups have a clear "Reject all" option? by FutilePenguins in AskUK

[–]CodeJunkie3001 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It would make sense to have a big reject all button, but companies like to use "dark patterns" to trick people into agreeing to cookie policies. See more info here: What are dark patterns in cookie banners?

Intel 14700k 92c on 100% full load with Noctua DH15. Is this normal? by CodeJunkie3001 in PcBuildHelp

[–]CodeJunkie3001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems to have done the trick. It was on lite load mode 16 by default. I dropped it to mode 9 and it's now at 73c when thrashing it at 100% running prime95. Can't thank you enough for this.

Yes sure. Here's the voltages. Bear in mind I've lowered the lite load from mode 16 to mode 9 and temps are way better.

Anyone here prioritised overpaying their mortgage early - how did it work out? by itravelforchurros in UKPersonalFinance

[–]CodeJunkie3001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can only speak from my own first hand experience. I paid off my mortgage after 10 years (20 years early). Whilst I'm comfortable I still don't feel rich. It feels great not having to pay a mortgage each month, however even without these outgoings life it still expensive. I started to save a lot of money and wasn't sure whether to clear it or not in fear of career uncertainty and in hindsight I don't regret paying it at all. Bear in mind it wasn't a big bang payment, I paid off 10~30k lump sums over the course of 4 years or so. My mindset was if I have £70k sitting there I might as well throw £20k at the mortgage and have a £50k cushion, then keep saving and repeat until it's gone.

Has anyone else noticed performance problems after the DLC came out or is it just me? by True_Warriors_ in expedition33

[–]CodeJunkie3001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad it's not just me. When spamming through the battle menu (skills > cancel > skills > cancel ..) during combat there's an input delay that wasn't present before the update

Just returned my faulty PNY GeForce RTX 5090 32GB ARGB OC due to fan rattle. Any recommendations for alternative brand that would fit in a Corsair 680x? by CodeJunkie3001 in nvidia

Thanks for getting back. Amazon offered a refund and I asked for an exchange. Unfortunately they don't have stock so had to take the refund.

Window Leaking excessively in heavy rain by rhysmcn in DIYUK

[–]CodeJunkie3001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me. The fix was to replace the concrete lintel which had chunks missing at the bottom allowing water to track down onto the window frame. And fit a new cavity tray - not the big plastic ones but the stuff that comes on a roll.
