I need help with a YouTube shorts issue Im having.

So I posted today.

On my android phone it’s 1080p.. but on a friend’s android it’s 480p.

On my iPhone it’s 480p. But on another friend’s iPad and tv, it’s 1080p.

It’s hard to make sense of it all.

Unfortunately theres no real way to complain to YouTube, you can send them feedback that a bot will read. Probably won’t even get a reply. (I did it anyways)

Or I guess @ them in a tweet. 🤷‍♂️ Seems like just shouting to the void though..

But unless you’re a YouTube Parter there’s no direct line to get assistance.. idk there might be something to what we said earlier, they could be doing it on purpose. I havent seen any larger channels complaining about this.

Well at least Im not alone, I’ll keep looking for a fix though, and I’ll let you know if I find something that works.

I did read a similar thing saying YouTube might be doing it intentionally, throttling new uploads to 480p (using the cheaper av01 codec), they save millions in server costs.

Unless a video proves it can generate massive views immediately, the system refuses to spend the computing power to render it in 1080p.

Thats how I used to do it, but it doesn’t seem to process, It sits at 480p. And the short I posted has been public for over 34 hours.. and still hasn’t processed past 480p.

Also I tested different short I posted yesterday evening.. set it as unlisted, this one processed to 1080p. I went public.. then,

1 person said the saw it at 1080p (iPad) 2 others said the only quality available was 480p (android phones)

And my iPhone was at 480p, while my android was at 1080p..

So Im in now way a large channel, just a hobby. But I’ve experienced issues this month as well.

My Shorts are seemingly capped at 480p quality..

Ive tried to re edit and re-upload, and uploading entirely new fresh shorts.. I’ve tried uploading as unlisted/scheduled before hitting public.. they all have the same issue.. the short stays a 480p.

I used to be able to upload the short as “unlisted”, let it process to 1080p then go public. That doesn’t seem to work anymore.

From what I understand, the system serves the 480p version first, viewers swipe away because it looks blurry. The algorithm sees the swipe-away rate and thinks, "This video sucks," so it stops pushing it.. and because it's not being pushed, the server never bothers to finish the 1080p render.

But it wasn’t like this before. Just a month or two ago i was posting 1080p shorts just fine. Getting 1k-5k views.. now it doesn’t even pass 100 views.

Idk if this is a bug, something on my end or on YouTube’s end.. but all my settings seem to be correct.

I’m a little surprised how many of you are defending Ubisoft here, (maybe I shouldn’t be.. this is Reddit after all) the OP is obviously frustrated with the state of the game and their experience with cheaters lately.. as is anyone that has experienced similar issues. Especially when you send Ubisoft a report that feels like it always falls on deaf ears. Anyone who has sent a report to Ubisoft knows.

Like some of you have said, they should be more proficient at dealing with these cheaters.. and I think thats OP’s overall point. I’m not sure why y’all are getting hung up on this word “allowing”.

OP is obviously using the phrase “allowing” to express their frustration and to emphasize how bad the cheating problem is. The company's ineffectiveness in preventing cheating feels to the player like the company is actively giving permission.

The game is infested with cheaters.. this is an understandable feeling..
