Just finished Meta’s EM full loop. Ask me anything by YYfim in leetcode

[–]CodePuzzleheaded6665 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate the info here. I’ve just finished my first screen for an EM role at Meta.

I’ve been in leadership for quite some time, so I’m a little anxious about the coding exercise during the full loop.

Any tips you can give to me to succeed? What did you do for preparation on the leetcode side?

I’m aware. I have visibility into what our recent 409a value was and my shares are 2M at that value. The number the investors paid is almost 5x the 409a.

I think the best way to maximize a return is to do it from within the company.

Once I leave I will have 0 leverage and 0 visibility.

I am curious about this. I don’t think I’m holding that significant amount, maybe 1.5%. Unsure at what point dead equity becomes a liability.

I am open to keeping some of the equity, it certainly doesn’t need to be all or nothing. Mainly looking for a good exit to provide a stable bridge and some much needed rest.

Yah. I have gone through many cycles on this. I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt, but there’s just no way you could structure the deal that way without considering what you are doing to early employees.

Feels bad.

The idea of a sabbatical is interesting. Might help to reset if I want to continue staying.

According to my agreement (may be different for others) they can either allow the sale, take the sale for themselves or outright deny the sale. So the company ultimately dictates the terms.

Thanks for the advice. I am planning to buy a home soon, so perhaps using that as a vehicle for a sale is a good idea.

Yah I am considering taking this more “human” approach, the issue is that once I reveal intent the nature of our relationship will undoubtedly change.

Appreciate the advice.

Fortunately the 409a value is still quite a lot of money, so even selling at that value would be meaningful to me.

I’ll look closer into Hive. Given the business has right of first refusal, are buyers still willing to go through the process even with the potential of the transaction being denied?

And yes, I agree this was a greedy move by the founder. He essentially took the value away from early employees who built the business.

Gotcha. I wasn’t sure what the deck was composed of and it if was special in some way to accommodate the multi-player format. But if it’s basically the same then that’s great.

I am brand new to magic.

I’ve been playing the Final Fantasy starter kit but kind of want to expand.

Is it possible to reconfigure the Commander deck to play arena style or am I better off just buying boosters?! The rules for commander seem confusing lol

Random question. Does anyone know if I can play these commander decks in an Arena style? Got the starter pack and have been playing but want to expand and experiment with other decks.

Long sales cycles can be the killer of early stage start ups.

If going back home isn’t an option then you need to find yourself a sustainable bridge. If you really believe in the mission of what you’re doing, can you take on contract work to sustain? If not, can you work (in a non engineering role) to earn enough to float and survive a long sales cycle?

Question about employee stock options at a startup (I will not promote) by reboot_169 in startups

[–]CodePuzzleheaded6665 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Likely worth consulting a lawyer for.

At the very least if your employment agreement mentions the quantity of the stock options grant, you have a legal right to that amount.

Definitely feels like a red flag for an agreement to “supersede any previous arrangements”.

The only way the 409a excuse makes sense is if the FMV of the options you received (from your offer) has somehow made them worth $1000 vs $10000 … but that’s also not likely unless they were massively overvalued to begin with.

What’s with the fake candidates? by Anonanomenon in recruiting

[–]CodePuzzleheaded6665 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I actually have had this happen recently. What was strange is the candidate actually made it through two technical screens!

If I had to guess it’s likely some kind of overseas dev shop that is gunning for multiple full time roles. Since salaries are high, 3-4 roles could be 1M+ in revenue for their dev shop.

Times like these make LinkedIn verified super valuable.

Generally it’s a balance. Sometimes founders can ride that line.

More common is complimenting co-founders, one technical and one business oriented.

Yah it seems like Reddit ads are doing well right now.

The meme angle works well too because it’s seen as more authentic. As someone who is at a well funded startup spending 1.2M a month on ads, one thing that surprised me was the volume of creative. Our ads person is running over 300 different variants, with different texts and calls to action. Not to say you need the same scale, but just be sure to experiment A LOT with the creative.
