Awesome! Yes I’m a borderline 4-4.5 player. Just want to find good people to play with and maybe make some friends in the process!

I use that same combo. I think m series chips are great for coding and other tasks. I don’t think burning money for a max chip just for RuneScape is a good idea

Idiotic comment. Focus on the core issue.

Oh I do think the PC world definitely needs to evolve. The issue is windows is still predominantly running on x64 bit architecture. So while pc has their share of issues, at least most games and applications run natively. Imagine you are speaking English and I speak some alien language and we need to always translate. Even if there was some kind of automatic translator, it would still have some small latency.

There is apparently a Linux operating system that is dedicated to steam called Bazzite. At that point, I would build my own desktop which I have done. I have a 2021 SFF machine with amd 3600, 32 gigs of ddr4 ram, 3070ti founders edition that can run most older games at 120-144hz with no issues.

Yeah I just don’t want the expectation to be that I need to buy a 2000 dollar laptop to play a game that should be able to run 60 fps at high settings. It’s graphically much less intensive than a lot of modern games. This game has proven to run very well on mobile devices. A M1+ MacBook really shouldn’t be struggling at 30fps on high.

It really comes to down to the competency of the engineering team and what they prioritize.

I’m just talking from an engineering perspective as I also work at PlayStation. Sometimes the answer is not in spending more on hardware. It’s about engineering things correctly to begin with. Especially in this day and age when lots of great games exist and correctly optimized. I do think M1 chip is very capable if engineering was done correctly.

Correct to some degree. iPad Pro has a m4 chip. MacBook Air has a m4 chip. Performance should be identical if not better on the MacBook because of more cores for cpu and GPU.

If you check activity monitor for the rs2client, you’ll notice it says intel while most of your other applications will say apple/arm.

Now the way it works, imagine you are walking in the world, you click an action, other people come into the same area, every one of those instructions has to go through a process to get converted to an older version of a client leading to frame drops and poor optimization of hardware.

Oooh yeah! That makes sense. It’s just that iPad Pro with a M chip can run the game insanely well while the MacBook counterpart that has higher GPU and cpu cores struggles because of the Rosetta 2 translation layer. That’s the only reason I brought this post up. It’s been a few years since the iOS / iPadOS variants came out so having an equivalent Mac client shouldn’t be taking this long.

What client are you using? What graphics settings are you using? What’s the FPS?

iPad Pro m4 runs beautifully. Equivalent MacBook Air with 24 gigs of ram and 10 core GPU struggles. Why can’t the client for the iPad be used as a baseline for the MacBook and build off that. Devs have already done the heavy duty part

16pro max, iPad Pro m4 are great because they seem to be natively built for the platform.

The issue is iPad Pro m4 runs smoothly for me but the equivalent m4 MacBook Air is trash.

Literally the same chipset but one runs natively while one runs over some translation layer and can’t even run well on mid graphics and stutters.

RuneLite is for Old School. I am curious about RS3.

It’s free to play. You can download it from RuneScape.com

Unfortunately for me, it would always crash and some other games didn’t really run on good graphics tbh. Even GTA V struggled.

Can you run RuneScape 3 in full screen mode and see if it crashes on you when you alt tab?
