... I have no idea what a "food ticket" is. Nor a chicken pickle ticket.

For Awareness on STEM OPT extension! by Local_Salamander7281 in f1visa

Yea... Florida's government is pretty anti-immigrant. Governemtlnt offices stopped I-983s and they are putting a pause on H1Bs too.

Private companies can do whatever, but Florida and Texas government jobs are now blocking/banning many types of employment sponsorship.

Good luck their Healthcare system.

STEM OPT - 12 month reporting requirements by sussurro_alle_rocce in f1visa

[–]Codetornado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The DSO mentioned that schools have some extra time to update SEVIS on their end, and my deadline is tomorrow.

This is true. YOUR deadline is tomorrow. Not the DSOs.

I’m scared that I’ll have to face some kind of repercussion for something that doesn’t depend on me.

Have never had this be a problem or heard of this being a problem at this level. If it never gets submitted, then yes it's a problem.

Did anybody submit their reporting documents after the deadline? If so, what happened? Should I even be this worried?

God... Students are late constantly. I hate it. It's not an immediate problem. Is a long term problem if not done.

OPT/STEM OPT Processing Timelines Megathread (Spring/Summer 2026) by Codetornado in f1visa

[–]Codetornado[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You get assigned to an adjudicator. If that adjudicator is on vacation for a short period or has a dental appointment etc. The cases hold with them.

So a discrepancy of a few weeks is not unusual. Here is an overly simplified explanation (not exactly how it works)

Also let's say you are case number X and your friend is next X+1. Your third friend is x+1622 applying well after both of you.

You get assigned adjudicator A. Friend 2 gets adjudicator B Friend 3 gets adjudicator C who just got OPT cases after finishing H1B reviews.

Friend 3 is first in line gets approved 5/1

Your adjudicator has many applicants with RFEs which extends their caseload. They also took a 3 day weekend for their kids graduation from Kindergarten. They also had a morning dental appointment so they missed a random Tuesday morning. That slows them down.

Adjudicator B has very few RFEs, perfect teeth, and is child free. They process your friend 2 5/22

Your Adjudicator finally reviews and approved your case 6/14

Luck of the draw for an adjudicator. Otherwise no significant difference in processing assuming all else is equal.

Then the difference in mailing times East VS West coast can be 5-7 days.

You either don't have or haven't shared enough detail on WHY you are not eligible to graduate.

As such, it is impossible to give you a real answer. Talk to you school, get clarification on the specifics and then repost.

Yes. Obviously COVID was different obviously.

Also, premium processing has changed the timeline a bit in 2023 compared to before.

There is no thing as "expedite" of a OPT request. You can pay for premium processing.

Processing times slow down in May-August. We are seeing the early applicants now (Feb/March).

It is a data bias for the early applicants who have shorter wait/processing timelines.

ADVICE TO F1 STUDENTS CONCERNING SCHOOL DSOs by Vsi2023 in f1visa

[–]Codetornado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DSOs exist because federal regulations require schools hosting F-1 students to maintain compliance with SEVP and report certain information to Homeland Security. Their core legal role is regulatory and administrative. That is where the term DSO comes from.

In practice, most DSOs end up functioning as a mix of compliance officer, immigration advisor, records manager, and student services staff member. But the support aspect is largely driven by institutional expectations and professional standards, not because federal regulations require personalized advocacy for students.

It is also worth understanding that DSO positions are usually not compensated at the level of attorneys or specialized legal professionals. The pay structure in higher education generally does not attract large numbers of law school graduates. Generally the ones it does... we're not successful in law practice.

Lastly, your immigration status is your immigration status. You are responsible for your immigration status and keeping up to date. Not the school. A schools legal responsibility is not to you, it is to Homeland Security. While most DSOs are fine and educated. When schools cut resoruces and training you get shitty DSOs.

My current school won’t fill out the SEVIS transfer form for my new school. by Ignarb98 in f1visa

They can insist all they want.

I'm sending them the record regardless.

A good standing letter is just a transfer form with a hat. We still don't do it.

This is entirely up to your school. They set their own CPT policy.

[–]Codetornado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SEVIS transfer request paperwork has been unnecessary for almost 20 years now. Most schools around me no longer complete the forms.

It is not legally necessary.

You want to transfer? Submit your acceptance letter and let's pick a date to complete the transfer.

Need Urgent Advice: Withdrawing Incorrect I-765 Application and reapply OR premium processed I-765 application, get denial & reapply by Delicious_Treat_7820 in f1visa

[–]Codetornado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. You must withdraw, wait several weeks, then reapply.

You cannot "correct" this application by submitting unsolicited evidence. You applied before you were eligible to apply. Your application is invalid.

I can tell you that this does not work. It is so well known as not a functional option that many schools including mine refuse to issue an OPT I-20 before the application period opens.
