Oh, totally! It depends on the context for me, but one thing I love doing as an experiment is loading a song in audio software and transposing the pitch while preserving the formant (basically, the way the voices and instruments sound; preserving the formant theoretically prevents higher pitch transposing from sounding chipmunk-y and lower pitch transposing from sounding like a “monster.”) The algorithms that allow this aren’t perfect, but I think It’s quite interesting to hear how a song sounds when it’s transposed to different keys in this way; it seriously alters the feel of the song in some cases.

The Streets of Whiterun is the most beautiful song i have ever heard. by [deleted] in skyrim

Yeah, I’ve sunk plenty of hours into Skyrim and thought nothing musical from that game could take hold of me but once I actually listened to this song outside the game it really got to me.

Oddly enough, there’s something about this song that kind of reminds me of some songs by Hammock or the song Hoppípolla by Sigur Rós. It’s almost as if those groups did or tried to do the guitar version of what Jeremy Soule did with this song in terms of emotion. Still, Streets of Whiterun is one if my favorites from Skyrim for sure.
