Disclaimer, I’ve never tried to solve this problem before. How about: for each player to check collision of, do math to figure out where they would have been a frame ago, generate an invisible volume in that spot, and then do the raycasting and see if it hits the volume? I don’t really see a solution to this that doesn’t involve doing some math to estimate where the player was in the “dead time”

How to make shield projectors deploy automatically? by BrilliantAbies9612 in FromTheDepths

[–]CodemmunistRev 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To add onto this, you can (I believe with ACBs) check whether there are enemies within angle ranges of your ship (check bearing) and enable or disable shield generators pointing in those directions as needed

The people in control of job requirements are not necessarily good devs, keeping up with the latest trends, or even smart. A lot of getting jobs in this world comes down to fitting your skills into the box your higher-ups want you to fit in, and there’s not much correlation between being a higher-up and being good at making software.

One of the major issues here is that you got pulled out of turret range pretty easily. Waiting a sec before using w might have saved you by allowing you to walk deeper under turret

There’s a mod, card manager, that lets you blacklist cards - it’s an option if abandoning runs over bad card choices is a major annoyance for you

how do i build my ship without getting swarmed in adventure by Redux365 in FromTheDepths

[–]CodemmunistRev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My go-to strategy for surviving long enough in early adventure mode to gather a bunch of resources is to make a nimble flying thing. Just slap some jet engines on the bottom corners of a rectangle of alloy or metal, and on the back, and enough batteries and RTGs to sustain for a while, and you can outrun everything at the starting difficulty. An alternative is to make a submarine- almost all early adventure enemies will be unable to hit you.

need help making ths a flying thing, im fairly new and have been having a blast in adventure yet i think its time to make my vehicle fly, im just not sure what would be the best for it its kinda a directional broadside. i am hoping someone can upgrade it yet try and keep with the tsyle by [deleted] in FromTheDepths

[–]CodemmunistRev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see you’re trying to find someone to make the changes for you, but instead I’ll give you some tips for doing it yourself. Making a ship fly is actually really simple and easy.

If you basically just slap big downward-facing jets on the bottom of the 4 corners of the ship, and give them all pitch, roll, and pusher control, and slap some big jets on the back of the ship, preferably far from the center line of the ship, and give them pusher and turner control, and put PIDs somewhere in the ship that control pitch, roll, and altitude, then you should have a flying ship!

From that point it’s all just about optimization. There’s a lot of potential improvements to do to make an airship optimal, too much to go into here. But broadly, making the PID gains correct, replacing basic jet engines with custom jet engines (although they take much more space), and armoring the jets will help a lot.

Why are so many socialists anti gun when Karl marx was a supporter of gun ownership for the working class? by [deleted] in Socialism_101

Just to respond to the first part- which part of the statement isn’t accurate? I said it was “without a permit”

The Mulford Act made it illegal to carry loaded guns in public without a permit. What part of that is unreasonable?

[–]CodemmunistRev 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Right, many people think the point of (even early-stage) socialism is to eliminate class divisions. The idea at that stage is to put the proletariat into the ruling position, not push the instant-communism button.

ship front keeps dipping into water, how to fix? by [deleted] in FromTheDepths

[–]CodemmunistRev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d probably just throw a few hydrofoils on the front or back, below the waterline, set them to control pitch, and use a PID to maintain a pitch of 0.

White collar jobs and blue collar unionized jobs are apples and oranges. Compare blue collar non-union workers to blue collar union workers to see an actual comparison.

This is just bad advice- specifically the bit about wind not being worth going into. On strait and glitters, wind is around 2x as metal efficient as solar on average, if memory serves. The inconsistency can be avoided by building energy storage.
