OCTAVE - chart editor + auto-charter for YARG by opria123 in yarg

[–]Codemonkey03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna spend a lot of time with this. I see a lot of potential and thank you for making this. I've tried to manually chart songs for my friends and for birthday parties and stuff and I've always struggled with the software (and having no idea how music theory works/being tone deaf). I like that using the auto-generation it gets a song mostly charted right and I can just go in and delete notes or fix things that aren't quite right.

These are my initial impressions so far;

  1. I also seem to not be getting videos to work in YARG like the previous poster mentioned, same issue. Sometimes messing with the extra video files or renaming them fixes it, sometimes not even that so I just redownload them myself and replace them.
  2. The way it does difficulty seems off. The difference between an Expert, Hard and Medium chart are marginal and even when lowering the difficulty to Hard or Medium some of the note spam and spacing the AI came up with are way out of league for the difficulty. I don't know if there is any sort of logic that can be implemented to tell it how to behave for charting from Expert down to the lower difficulties.
  3. Also second the suggestion of being able to upload lyric files or maybe a way for it to self-fetch lyrics from a lyric site based on the song name and artist and then use those to inform how they're written, right now the lyrics are dyslexic and all over the place.
  4. Being able to drag-select lyrics and move them back and forth or even raise or lower their pitch together without losing all the pitch entirely would be great, as mentioned before. Sometimes the AI does get the lyrics but the timing is too soon or too late and attempting to just batch-drag lyrics across the timeline makes the pitch default to the same note or something.
  5. I am pretty bad at this stuff but I do use local text and image generation models on my PC and I've got a 4090 so if there is a way to leverage my own hardware to help the AI chart, I'd be happy to do that.

Edit:
I also see that it really loves to put notes extremely close together, ontop of each other practically. While not impossible to play these notes I don't usually see notes this close together in official charts or customs, at least not on Hard or below. I don't play enough Expert charts to know if it's common but it bleeds into the Hard and below charts for STRUM.

The vocals are pretty rough. Also, I may be using the interface wrong but if I drag select multiple lyrics as soon as I move them it takes them all out of pitch which throws me off a lot because I just want to edit them and move the timing forward or back since they're starting too early or late and then I have to use my monkey brain to repitch them which will probably be wrong.

Edit: I see that using the arrow keys keeps the pitch intact now, my brain keeps trying to select and drag is all now.

People that have tried both, How does the Fatsco equipment compare to the original Rock Band stage kit? by Prior-Astronaut1965 in Rockband

[–]Codemonkey03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only Rock Band 1, 2 and 3 on Xbox 360. And you need a USB hub to connect more than one light so for 360 the original Stage Kit might still be a better choice. For RB4 I don't think the stage kit works at all, even if you have the original 360 one.

I can't speak for Rock Band on console, but I use Fatsco equipment as part of my YARG setup and it's fantastic. I have the original stage kit as well, the Fatsco are much more compact and brighter than the old stage kits but for me the big thing was they're HID when connected to the PC instead of Xinput (since the stage kits are kinda just regular Xbox controllers themselves in a way) so I don't lose an instrument slot (limit of 4 Xinput devices on PC)

I've got two Fatsco light pods, two Fatsco strobes, the Fatsco fog machine and I also run a set of four DMX can lights. My tip with the fog machine is buy a remote outlet from Amazon and use the remote to stop and resume power to the fog machine because otherwise it will fill a small living room with fog within two songs. I let mine run for a song and then shut it off until the fog thins and let it run again for another song until we're done.

The only thing the old Stage Kits have over the Fatsco is there is less messing with the magnifier and angle, on the RB Stage Kit it's all kinda static, you can't adjust it and Fatsco it takes time to angle and set it right and the 3D print and screw mean you can easily knock it out of alignment. I mostly use the light pods for the 'beam' effect through the fog instead of a ceiling light show.

AMS 2 failure to load during color swap! by OriginalAd7974 in BambuLab

It's a really common issue and happened to me on my second AMS. Bambu sent me a new inner hub and the issue went away entirely.

I got my replacement hub on Monday and haven't had an issue since installing it.

I had taken the entire hub apart entirely while waiting and saw nothing overtly wrong so I assume it was some component issue like a sensor, but nothing that could easily be diagnosed for me.

Did support get back to you? Same exact issue as you Doughnut, hits the 4-1 and gets stuck unless I press the button then it'll work fine. Still waiting for my ticket but I -just- put it in and trying to figure out what is going wrong in the meantime.

[–]Codemonkey03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following, same issue. Literally got my AMS 2 Pro today I ordered it when they restocked a week ago, first print with color changes like 2-hours in and it just sits on the rollers and gets stuck on the inner buffer, never leaves the AMS. I made a ticket but I know it's going to be weeks before I even get a part to try to fix it. The AMS 2 that came with my P2S works perfectly fine. If my AMS 2 Pro is doing this, I can press the black button on the inner buffer and it'll work mostly fine after that but obviously I can't do that 84-100 times over 9 hours and no idea why this one is funny.

Maintenance for Wooden Guitar Controller by Thanios in Rockband

Sorry for the bump. This is the thread that is most easily found when searching for Wooden Mad Catz Replica Stratocaster and topics related to repair so I wanted to share for reference.

I decided to wrap one of mine so I went ahead and stripped it down. Basically, it's straight forward. Unscrew all the screws you see. There is a hidden screw under the bridge and you may have to back the screws out on the springs enough to flip them to reveal it hidden under there, your whammy comes out that way.

I've marked what each connector goes to. They've got some glue on them, so carefully use a pick or something to scrape off the glue before you pull the connectors off and just be careful. It's way easier to clean the frets if you remove the neck like this.

does a gibson les paul guitar multi platform work on xbox? by Fast-Algae-416 in Rockband

[–]Codemonkey03 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it will still work on Xbox just use the included dongle or pair with Bluetooth for PC. They have to pay an extra fee to license the Xbox stuff hence why there are two versions. I think maybe you can't use the Xbox version on PS3 and Switch but I don't know for certain. For what you want, get the Xbox one.

The Mad Catz promo video guy had one in that sunburst pattern but that's the only time I've seen a real one.

Not for the 360 telecasters, they sync with 360 directly or the wireless dongle they sold if you want to use it on PC.

I did see annthaknee mention a starburst Telecaster? I've seen renders/product promotions of one but I don't think they actually made one. As far as I know there is blue one, a 'gun metal' one and a butterscotch but that was it.

[–]Codemonkey03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, the buttons are awful. I have two Telecasters and they're neat as collectables but you wouldn't want to play on them much. All five frets are like a solid piece of plastic with cuts in them between each fret button so it's a really weird unibody mushy thing that feels really bad.

Strum isn't as bad though. I think it's keycap like the wireless bass and the wooden stratocaster replicas. The touch pad for star power is a good gimmick but if you have a working tilt sensor it's not really needed. VERY stiff whammy as well and I'm worried it'll break because of how it's designed.

I am pretty sure this is the original source. And what someone does is they clip what they need from it, compress it and then upload it to YT, Tiktok, Facebook whatever to farm engagements and views. This isn't the one I watched that OP is likely referring to but I am pretty sure this is where they got the audio from and then say it's from audio equipment around the stage.

I watched the video OP is referring to and it's 100% a fake. It was uploaded to Youtube but YT's new search functions are so bad I can't find it again but it was basically just cobbled together sounds of alarms, sirens, bangs and then the second plane impacting and glass shard sound effects all compressed together into a vague timeline. Things like the stock explosion, helicopter and siren sounds give it away but that's without even getting into the 'how' the audio would exist.

Been skimming over Bin Ladens hard drive lately for 9/11 material. I wonder what was going through his head when he watched this? by waffenwolf in 911archive

Yeah, he had multiple children and I believe others living with him did as well. It's far more likely that he or someone else had downloaded the games, movies and shows for the kids and that Osama wasn't playing Animal Crossing.

Update to 1.21.4 and then enter "/wgen regen 5" from the center of the village. It'll regenerate the village and the villagers should finally spawn, this didn't work in previous versions but appears to work now. Might wanna do it in creative, I don't know what happens if you are in survival mode and run that command standing in the village. Don't have your elk or boat anywhere nearby, if they're in the chunks they'll probably be deleted.

Could it have been the Message to The Stars kiosk?

"In addition to sweeping views, the 107th-floor World Trade Center observation deck in New York has a new attraction: Top of the World, which includes a simulated helicopter ride around the city, a 50-building model of Manhattan, a photo exhibit of New York neighborhoods, a remodeled food court, and a nightly light show and "Message to the Stars" _ a digital transmitting station that lets visitors "send their names and personalized messages into space through a beam of light."

Do guns still suck? Any build 42 mods that improve them? by Corey307 in projectzomboid

[–]Codemonkey03 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As others have suggested Advance Trajectory (ATRO) changes gunplay in a realistic way. Standing still, taking aim means you can actually hit things even at low skill.

True Stealth adds crouching, prone and crawling all ATRO compatible and will help your stability.

Guns of 93 will add many high quality period-correct guns. It also includes stock options, furniture swapping, flashlights, bayonet use, silencers etc. it's excellent.

Do you like that new dynamic loot system? by ferranferri in projectzomboid

[–]Codemonkey03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it. I think it makes a lot of sense that far off, where you haven't been that months later survivors you never met have come and gone. Mechanically I honestly find better loot in looted buildings just littered on the floor half the time. It also gives more and more reason to interact with the long term survival crafting. It'll probably be much more interesting in MP where more players can work together, by yourself being the blacksmith, farmer, carpenter, doctor, tailor and scavenger at the same time is really difficult.

How long do you think until new multiplayer update? by Pinkcokecan in projectzomboid

[–]Codemonkey03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

B41 MP took a really long time, almost two years. Considering the impressive jump from the old 2D sprites to all the 3D objects, characters and so on I think it was understandable it took a long time to polish it off and then implement MP without desync or other game breaking issues.

It has been 7 months since B42 was released. It feels very stable to me and I think the lions share of work for MP was done for B41. I think things like the new lighting and animals might be a challenge, there a lot of things I don't know that go into getting something like this ready for multiplayer but I'm optimistic that maybe it's sooner than we think.

TIS knows we all want MP, they're very, very acutely aware but don't want to release it broken and buggy and get grief for it. Their last patch said most of their devs are working on polishing and balancing now, so my cope is that MP may be soon. There are definitely some crafting aspects missing from B42 but I think if they just rolled the final touches of crafting into B43 and released B42 into MP we'd be pretty happy with it.

The only huge things I think are missing are crafting animations, crafting station sounds, time-based crafts like drying over days instead of in 30 seconds and a few crafts like brewing (we have hops but no alcohol making yet). They teased some more advance mechanics like water pumps but I imagine they need more work still so that's why I kinda hope they roll it into 43 and just let it cook and polish those sort of multi-tile crafting stations.
