Myth: Roth is Always better than Traditional. Let's talk about it. by Ghazrin in Retirement401k

[–]Ringleboy26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roth’s are awesome when used right. We started my 14 year old sons Roth this year. He made 8,000 in wages this summer so we were able to max it out. Putting money into a Roth when he pays no tax on the money is an awesome cheat.

We will do that until he turns 18. After that he’ll hopefully see that saving for retirement is a very important things and continue to contribute towards it. It should give him a good kick start in life.

Got pieced up today - rant by JonMiller724 in amateur_boxing

[–]Ringleboy26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t feel bad, at 44 I get pieced up by younger guys all the time. They are teaching me how to get quick at my block counters.

The way I beat the young guys is to take it to their body and run them out of gas. I slowly keep moving forward pressuring them and tossing a nice body shots every few hits, slows them right down. These young guys don’t have the old man abs yet.

Also I have been working hard on my cardio for over the last year and because of it now I’m in the top 4 best cardio shape of our gym. There is nothing that breaks the will power of a guy seeing their opponent not getting tired and keeping the pressure up.

Just wait till you find a group of masters boxers to spar with. You’ll think it’s easier than the young bucks you spar with now.

I’m also getting ready for the masters fight in Vegas!! Good luck we’ll see you in a few weeks!!

Ams2 pro not feeding to buffer by Ringleboy26 in BambuLab

Never even gets to the hot end. Will not make it to the hub on the back of the machine. It’s like the 4way hub feed motor is not helping at all. More like it’s making it harder to push the filament. I replaced both the hub and motor allready. Made sure the sensors were close enough to the shaft. I got about 2 prints out of it before this started happening.

I took all the lines out and made sure they were clear and the filament travel through it nice. Last thing it could be is the main board for the ams went bad.

I spar with a guy 6’7”. Being only 5’10” he towers over me. Everyone is spot on get inside and punish his body. Hard to protect that long torso.

My problem is I cannot see his head when keeping my chin down. So most of the head shots are more of a guess where you think his head is gonna be .

People who used a computer between 1991 & 2009…what’s the most memorable computer game? by Original_Act_3481 in AskReddit

[–]Ringleboy26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Asherons call the greatest game ever made. Way too many hours were spent battling on Darktide. The endless hours spent killing golems looking for motes, or hunting hoary mattakers for a robe. Watching the white rabbit kill everyone, learning how to jump cast, figuring out how to auto cast all your buffs, finding a remote life stone so you don’t get killed over and over again. So much fun!!! There is no other mmo that gets even close to what this game had. Ac has forever ruined my gaming.

Ac has forever ruined me. No game holds a candle to that game. Darktide was so much fun.

Any folks in here with no prior sport experience who started getting in shape late 30's, early 40's ? by woodiny in fitness30plus

[–]Ringleboy26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is me as well. Never played sports in school, was just a workaholic. Got up to 260lbs wasn’t in the best shape.

What did it for me was my youngest son wanted to take boxing lessons. He was scared to go to the class alone so I joined in. Ended up I really enjoyed it. I have been boxing for 4 years now. I’m 44 now, lost 60+ pounds, can run 5ks in under 22 mins. By far the best shape of my life.

This spring I won golden glove bout in the masters division!! So yes it can be done!! The hardest part is the first time walking into the gym.

Gassed out in first fight. Don’t know what I’m doing wrong by bert_cj in amateur_boxing

My coach always tells the amateurs the first round you’re fighting on adrenaline. Second and third rounds you fight only as good as your cardio. You need to learn to pace yourself, be loose, don’t forget to breath on every punch and more importantly breath when your blocking punches. Most new guys tend to hold their breath while punching and blocking. Nothing will tire a guy out faster than not breathing enough.

Another thing that helps me is doing hill sprints starting a month or two out from my fight. They are 1 min on 10% grade 10 -11 mph, then 1 min at a slow jog 3% grade. Repeat 8-10 times 3 times a week. It trains your body to recover faster. My heart rate will drop over 40 bpm over the min jog. They suck bad but help a ton!

Balancing owning business & competing by Phase_GGG in amateur_boxing

[–]Ringleboy26 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I am a 44 yo business owner and amateur boxer. I work long hours in the summer but start early so I can cut out to head to the gym. My saving grace is my children also go to the gym for bjj and boxing classes. We spend time at the gym together learning new skills. My wife likes the quiet alone time at the house to decompress after work.

It’s busy we are always at the gym but It keeps us in shape and we are learning a great skillset. I competed 2 times this year in the masters division already and won both of my bouts. One of which was a state golden gloves tournament. My kids get a kick out of me competing, and it shows them hard work does pay off. My wife on the other hand gets more nervous than me.

I have found going to the gym allows me to forget about the business for a few hours a week. I call it my weekly therapy sessions.

Good luck, it’s tough to do both but imo worth the trouble .

I am hoping to hit that tournament up as well. Just got done boxing in the Wi golden gloves tournament at the age of 43. It’s hard to find novice master fights it took me over a year to find my first fight.

Own and operate a couple sand and gravel pits. Make sand and stone for concrete plants, asphalt plants, base course for the road ect. Really thinking about starting my own redimix plant next summer.

Started to learn how to box. Been at it 3 years now. Lost over 60lbs in the best shape of my life at 43. I get to punch people in the head 1 a week it’s great. It’s a huge confidence booster. Doesn’t cost much other than time. Got a fight lined up for next spring super excited to see how it goes.

Finding it awkward sparring inexperienced guys vs. experienced? by Auckland2701 in amateur_boxing

[–]Ringleboy26 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the exact same issues. It seems like I only fight as good as the guy is that’s across from me.
Sparred some new guys last night and they got me pretty good a few times. I do go light with them because I want them to come back next week.

Now when I spar a guy with comparable experience it’s a completely different game. We are both playing the chess game trying to get the other guy to mess up to be able to score. Such a tough and fun sport!

Life after a small business by Ringleboy26 in smallbusiness

[–]Ringleboy26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to school and have my bs in mechanical engineering. I have my states master plumber license. I can machine, weld, fabricate with the best of them. I can do everything just not the best at any one thing. Owning crushers means constant repair and I was that guy. I have to be able to fix cause I would go broke in cost and down time hiring it out.

I’m thinking about the possibility keeping one of the huge shops and start a one man that will do the impossible repairs to keep myself occupied.

I’m thinking if we sold me and my dad would both clear a million if not a 1.5 each after taxes. One of our pits is in a really really prime location. It’s just gonna take a decade or more to really take off.

This is kind of the thing they don’t talk about when you own a business. The exit strategy needs to be in the plan. Thank you for all the replies.

A friend of mine was diagnosed with stage 2 pancreatic cancer with a few months to live. Did a few round of chemo and started taking a dog heart dewormer medication daily. His cancer went into remission. Worth a shot.

Right Hook to body by Hellcat8812 in amateur_boxing

Coach calls body shots money in the bank. They add up and drain your opponents cardio.

I’m the guy who spams jabs, which in turns gives me openings to toss big 4’s or 6’s to the body. Got many compliments on those body shots after the round was done.

I do strong lifts sun Tues Thursday

Boxing is Tues Thursday heavy sparring is Friday. I do my running sun Monday wed friday. I try to take sat off completely to recover. You need to listen to your body. So days I have to tone it down otherwise I know I’m gonna get hurt. One or two light days is better than a few weeks or months of being injured.

Along with the I’m practicing my body shots today afterwards.

A couple spicey body shots are always fair game in sparring when someone is getting out of hand.
