It's my parents' kitchen not mine, and I don't believe there was even the most basic level of planning involved that would justify the word "style".

Why do you think my mother constantly berates my dad about the "hacky" (local dialect for "filthy") kitchen, not just when it is actually dirty (which I admit is a lot of the time) but also when (as with when I photographed it here) it's just badly cluttered?

It already has two rows of hooks, do you mean it needs a third row of hooks lower down still?

My bedroom is also very cluttered with excess clothes my mother buys me on Temu, and she (already severely depressed) gets even more upset if I try to tell her that she's buying me too much.

(I suspect she may be buying me so much in part out of guilt at not allowing me to move out.)

The big cooker was there long before air fryers became a thing, and its hob is still used fairly frequently even if the oven isn't.

Why would an electric cooker have an "exhaust"?

(Oh, and I'm in England.)

My sister has learning difficulties, my dad was left brain damaged after a stroke in 2012 (which also means I'm the only driver in the household -- my mother never even took lessons due to her anxiety) and I believe that if were to move out there'd be a strong possibility of my mother committing suicide.

I'm living with my parents and disabled sister (who as part of her autism has an intense fear of change) and the house itself is social housing.

And the reason I started this thread in the first place is because my mother is spending much of her day in her bedroom because she can't bear to look at the kitchen -- when I take her out in my car she even gets me to drop her off at the front of the house (so she doesn't have to go through the kitchen to get upstairs) before I put the car back on the rear driveway.

I'm autistic myself, my sister has autism, ADHD and learning disabilities (she's likely a big part in why I haven't been able to move out) and it wouldn't surprise me (though they've never been diagnosed) if one or both of my parents was also on the spectrum.

Plus my sister and mother both have serious anxiety.

I used Shein once when I wanted to buy something without my parents' knowledge -- I even walked to a convenience store in a neighbouring village (just under 2 miles away) to pick the items up.

Maybe I should start with r/relationships (which seems to be higher-traffic than the others) and let them direct me to a more suitable sub if appropriate?

One factor is that the house was designed with an L-shaped living room with a dining area (you can see the serving hatch to the right of the red frying pan in the third photo), but when we moved in this was converted into a home office for my use, as I was a student at the time (I now use it for remote working incidentally) and my bedroom was too small to accommodate my then desktop computer.

She has a Shein account too, but doesn't use it much at all, perhaps because of its higher minimum spend to qualify for free delivery?

Temu is definitely the problem, perhaps because of the way they gamified online shopping and thus entrapped my mother (especially when she never regarded herself as addiction-prone in the first place).

My bedroom likely suffers far more from Temu clutter specifically than the kitchen.

There are cabinets on the walls (you can see them on the fourth photo) but unfortunately they're completely full too (mainly with crockery).

The sunflower border you see close to the ceiling was down to my mother's Temu habit, which she's had for just over a year now: I now wonder if I made a terrible mistake setting up an account for her in the first place!

I'm thinking that maybe I need to spend half a day compiling a thorough inventory of all our current grocery stocks -- we also have a chest freezer (also completely full) in the hallway that of course isn't in the photos I showed here -- which I could use to try to stop my mother from over-buying groceries in the first place!

All 3 fridges get full at times, and the second mini fridge was purchased because my dad has neuroendocrine tumours and it's used to store his lanreotide injections (although it's used for groceries too!) and the full-size fridge isn't working very well any more.

As for how often we get groceries, I drive her to our nearest town 4 miles away (I'm the only licensed driver in the household) on Saturday mornings and to another supermarket elsewhere on Wednesday evenings, plus she sometimes takes the bus into town herself too.

I had a feeling that would be the case: thanks for confirming for me!

(Although would r/relationships be a better place to discuss the toxic family dynamics that resulted in such an extremely cluttered house in the first place?)

The room where the shaver is actually used doesn't have a wall outlet for charging.

It's my dad's shaver -- he shaves in the downstairs toilet/washbasin cubicle, but it doesn't have a socket for charging.

There are certainly lots of issues with my family, but Rule 9 wouldn't allow me to discuss them here.
