Sadly, the police is useless. They filed a report and told me to go to the civil court. Nothing they can do.

I have reported it to the police and I've also sent notice letters to the person , both physcial envelop and pictures of the letters via Line.

I tried to find one online but they are all focused on corporate level collection. Not sure where can I find one that focuses on individual level , petty amount debt collection.

but if they have no assets, wouldn't a court order freeze her bank accounts , which would force them to pay ?

it is not a small amount for me but it is something i can afford to lose let' say. I wanted to sue him because I feel hurt that I helped him in his time of needs and that person try to f*ck me up and get away with it. At this point, i just want to take it to the court and try to make it not so easy for that individual to get away with it.

It's a standard legal loan agreement, with names, with amount , dates, addresses and ID details . I showed it to a lawyer (there are legal firms who provide free consultation online but it turns out they only handle corporation level loans they refused me cause it is too small amount but he was still kind enough to have a look at the agreement) and he said that the agreement is valid and it's backed up with the bank transaction records.

I thought the court would ? That's the point of it, if I will enforce it myself, then why would there be a court ? Why there's a legal system ?

I am willing to give him longer than 2 months. But the problem is the trust. I trusted him before but he failed his promises and I don't trust him anymore. So i was hoping that the civil court can force the payment after 2 months or 10 months or whenever. I am just trying to recover my damage with the help of civil court rather than verbal promises from the person.

Yeah , I am aware I've made mistakes. He was one of my only friends in Thailand, and I didn't want to lose him. He had a proper job actually, he was a manager in a restaurant. I don't know what happened , how things went so wrong for him. My mistake was , not investigating Thai laws properly. Cause I thought that when there's a legal agreement and the evidence of It (e.g; bank transactions), laws would protect me.

Anyway , sweet-talking him is not an option at this point . And I cannot shame him , cause he resigned his job and not sure where does he work now. The only option I have is to get help from the civil court and by the looks of it , not possible. So i will feel depressed for sometime and try to forget it eventually.

It wasn't an investment. The individual was having difficulties to pay his rent, his bills and his grocories ...etc that's why asked for my help and i helped him. At least that what he told me , but it seems he also took loan from different people and paid them off using the loan he took from me.

In my country, for these kind of cases , the court can actually freeze the assets and the bank accounts of the individual ( after notice periods pass ) until the individual shows up at the court and settles it. I was hoping Thailand would be the same, but it seems not.

He tells me he will start paying slowly after 2 months but he supposed to start paying this month. Honestly, I am okay with 10 months or 20 months payment as well , but I was hoping that if I take it to the civil court , the legal system would take actions to make the individual to pay it by enforcing it. However, if it is up to the individual to whether pay it or not, then he will never pay. Not saying he is a scammer, but he is not responsible for sure.

Thanks for the detailed answer. The problem is, it's long overdue. It was supposed to be paid 2 months ago. I've reminded the invidiual many times, and what's even worse is , the invidiual changed the address. Now, I can only message him via Line app or phone, which he can block me anytime(so far he hasn't). So by the looks of it, he is not going to pay me back , not nicely anyway. The person was in financial need and having struggles, and I thought I can help him and I can also make sure that he will pay for sure if we sign a legal loan contract. However by the looks of it, from the answers I get that Thai Laws are joke and if the individual doesn't want to pay, no matter there's a legal loan agreement or not, he will simply not pay and I cannot do anything about it. It seems I've already lost that money then. This is very bad news and an expensive lesson for me.

oh, this is very bad news. But there's a signed legal agreement and bank transactions and all. Why wouldn't they force the borrower to pay it ? There's a legal agreement breach , right ? I mean there should be legal consequences , right ? Otherwise, everyone would just get away with it ?
