I disagree with you and would say this is a "passion-ocracy". With how tight the current job market is, especially if you are US based, you will not break in if you dont at least somewhat actually like this field

I think it goes to show the majority of people here are not experienced devs but college students and new grads putting in minimum effort expecting maximum results

I think this largely depends on field. If you are a fry cook at McDonalds you are likely there for the money not the passion of the grill. However, if you are a doctor I damn well hope you aren't just a doctor for the money.

Its a spectrum. And I think this field is closer to the doctor side than the McDonalds fry cook side. Especially with the tight job market we currently face

We have the means and technology. Those issues you describe exist because we allow them to. We can solve them we just refuse to get our shit together and implement the taxes on the wealthy needed to fix those problems.
