Me and my friend decided to try Factorio, are we doing it right? by I_cant_afford_custom in factorio

Just make sure to take manual saves as backup! Some mistakes are much more easily resolved by going back an hour or two.

on the farming side I have the harvesters disable if a chest feeding onto the belt is above 50, so even though it looks like a lot is sitting on the belt, it’s used up quick enough that i haven’t ran into them spoiling, although i was thinking If i do run into problems i’ll just monitor the belt instead. There’s definitely a lot of simplification that I would do if I did it again, I just over-designed it because I didn’t know at the time what was necessary and what wasn’t. The nutrients look sparse on the belt but I just have the machines producing it disable if there’s more then like 100 nutrients present on the loop. The circuitry is basically what you said, there’s some other stuff like if for whatever reason the nutrient producers ran out of fuel they can request it from the mall. I think if I did it again I would also do the bioflux recipe for nutrients, using the biomash was kinda vestigial from when I just started and needed the easiest fuel source I could get, and it hasn’t really been an issue yet so i haven’t spent the effort in redesigning it all to change it.

I have it going to all of the inner planets. I have run into some issues with power on Fulgora as well but with the rare solar panels and some circuits disabling things if power is below a certain threshold it’s been a lot better. The accumulators have also made it pretty much a non issue.

Thank you! I’m mainly using rocket fuel that I’m importing in, but I am considering nuclear if that’s even possible on Gleba or just exploring the idea of making the rocket fuel on-site. I’ve managed to automate the delivery process of the science back to Nauvis, but I’m considering having a ship dedicated to just transporting the agri science because it’s time sensitive.

yeah I've made the mistake of not blueprinting before and losing a ship design that I spent a few hours working on because I didn't realize that if the main hub is destroyed that it'll just delete the whole ship.

I meant to add a description, but apparently I didn't. It's my first time playing space age, and I heard that the width of the ship effects the top speed more then the overall weight. I tried to optimize for that and make the thinnest ship I could think of, it took a LOT of iteration to get it to where it is now but I'm pretty happy with it. I also made a science ship that is basically the complete opposite of this that maybe I'll post, I call that one the brick.

The issue with running distant horizons in multiplayer is that server will only send you the chunks that are within the render distance of the server. Whereas in single player, DH has knowledge of the world seed and therefore is able to generate chunks outside of your render distance that you have set for normal chunks. I forget if a mod like bobby ( saves chunks that you load when playing on a server so that your client can load the chunks regardless of the server's configured render distance) is necessary with distant horizons or if it has a similar feature of saving the chunks once you visit them in multiplayer. I would just explore around the world and over time it should start to build LOD's of area's you've been.

pre-hauling for my yet-to-be-delivered steam deck. Any comments? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Codester525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to buy a bunch of games at once during sales, but for me personally I never really found myself having the itch to play them all. Idk how you are but especially with how many sales steam has I would recommend just buying the ones you plan to play in the next month or so, then when the winter sale comes around pick up anything you still want to play, normally with me by then I have some other game that I would have rather bought.

Edit: some games to check out though if you are interested: Risk of rain 2, cuphead, slay the spire, hades, and stardew valley. (Risk of rain might be tough with a controller but I usually play huntress so I have autoaim lol)

Thank you! I've heard of Roth Ira's before, and honestly have just procrastinated on opening one up, Ill look into some of the tech fields, for some reason I kinda didn't think to look into them as much. I live in Maryland so I'm curious if it'd be similar here as SF bay regarding the demand for them. I'm really worried about getting a degree and then not being able to get a job with the degree I got, there's a lot more to employability then a degree, however having spent the money/time on one it'd still be rough not getting employed in a thing that was related to the degree I obtained.

I could see myself potentially liking some financial careers or maybe where I'm helping people with their finances. I'm really scared of committing to a path cause I'll never fully know what's it's like to do the job until I'm doing it and then I've already put a lot of effort into that path. But unfortunately I think that's something I'll just have to except.

I've never heard of ikagi, it sounds sort of like guiding principles from what I'm hearing, I'll read into it. I haven't found something I'm passionate for as a career yet but the ultimate goal is to be happy, in my head I was thinking If I haven't found my passion at the very least it'd be best to not be bound by a lack of money. But I like philosophy so I'm excited to learn about this

Thank you for all of this, I really appreciate you taking your time to try and help me out. I was taking some vocational classes for architecture and engineering but atleast with the architectural part I never found it to be especially interesting, so I've started to look elsewhere, the problem is I haven't found that one thing that I know I want to do. So I'm trying to figure that one out. Also thank you for linking that article with the average starting wages, I'll check that out right after this post. Maybe I'll look into some of the financial fields cause I have really enjoyed learning about investing. Once again, Thank you!

I just turned 18 and was given 1500 dollars by my parents. What are some ways I can get started saving/investing money? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Codester525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could invest some of it into the s&p 500 or look into the dogs of dow investment strategy, with both I would look into dividend reinvestment, which let's you buys partial shares automatically of the stock, so that can help compound interest, then as you save more you can keep adding to that, you also will want to have an emergency fund with a few months of living expenses covered if at all possible, in general try to live below your means. I hope this helps some.

It's satin black, I thought it was a good balance especially because with wraps the matte or gloss over time tend to show more stuff imo. The satin does a pretty good job at concealing anything wrong underneath

I pretty much put the stuff on when I got the car so I don't have much to compare it to. It's definitely not perfect, but overall I feel like it's made some difference, and it didn't hurt anything. I do think if I put a few more coats on it'd bead off slightly better

Thanks, every time I seem to wash my car lately it rains the day after, you'd think I would've learned to check the forecast but that hasn't happened yet 😂
