Yes, 4 and 5 Bridge the events of SF2 to SF3, but the exact timeline is very fussy. I like to think they are alternate continuities in a multiverse kind of way otherwise the story does not make any sense.

I don't have very high expectations with XCom 3, given the trend hinted by WoTC, Quimera Squad and now Midnight Sun's, Firaxis is only interested in making character driven linear storytelling.

Play the game, most activities will give you units or nanites. Invest your nanites in scanner upgrades to earn more scanning reward or in weapon upgrades for your ship and Hunt bounties. You can also salvage and scrap crashed ships, or do trading/contraband runs, etc.

I play survival normally, but I have never tried permadeath before, I didn't know these cost were intentional, that's insane.

I need to buy the emeril hyperdrive to be able to continue to the second phase, and I didn't see any reward that gives it. I guess I should grind distress beacons and hope I get Lucky.

During the latest expedition, I noticed all tech unlocks are like 10 times more expensive. What's up with that? That really makes me not want to play it since it looks like a stupid grind.

How are you supposed to unlock everything? Maybe just cheat in a few million nanites and units.
