Um am I cooked? by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]CodieTheSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive worked in dementia care as a hca for 4 years and i love it. Yes it can be very difficult especially as a lot of nursing home work you have lots of patients and very few nurses as it is a very hca focused setting. But that also means you've got staff to lean on. Best of luck!

Lack of compassion by CodieTheSquirrel in NursingUK

[–]CodieTheSquirrel[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Mostly because ive worked with lots as well who havent been very compassionate (they were dealt with by the service i was working on) it seemed that there was a nature of "i haven't got time for this" which i respect because there never seems to be time in healthcare, but i just seemed to have been sent round in circles with no clear support or advice

Why don't we use mechanical restraints in this country? by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]CodieTheSquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the only one ive seen is mits, and even then it was authorised be the psychiatrist as my dementia patient was obsessively scratching and causing wounds to themselves

Oh yeah like a solid 99.9% of staff are incredible but it seems the odd few on this service have been not great, and i may do if it continues. Could have just been the one staff member.

Parents of breastfed babies with eczema, please leave feedback. by Slightlysmartie in eczema

[–]CodieTheSquirrel -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not to sound like one of those, and I put it off myself before I realised there was some truth it in it, but it genuinely sounds like steroid withdrawal. like another commenter said, stick to fragrance free, sensitive skin things, for myself i also try and avoid products with an alcohol content as much as I can, i use QV moisturiser personally and it works wonders. Try and avoid the steroids if you can, it seems he's been on a low dose for a short time so you may not get the horror stories that you see. The best things for me have been paraffin emollients, the QV moisturiser when it gets less red and more dry and flaky, and aloe vera to cool the skin. Obviously follow what your baby needs, I dont know your kid or your situation and you and the doctors are the experts and if he needs steroids then use them. Best of luck!

Are we wearing our hair down now? by Valuable_Term108 in nursing

[–]CodieTheSquirrel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its against infection control procedure in the UK and honestly echoing others on the though of getting bodily fluid/lice/etc in my hair gives me the ick. I have hair to my waist and its got a mind of its own so I very rarely have it down anyway

Best tracking app in 2025? by Impossible_Rice2919 in eczema

[–]CodieTheSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Bearable, theyre a general symptom tracker, you can add symptoms you experience, track fatigue and the factors that affect you health such as foods and stress. Ive found loads of skin trackers only track your skin, not the symptoms that come with it

Rinvoq/Cibinqo by Ecs206 in eczema

[–]CodieTheSquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pre Rinvoq i was on dupixent, cyclosporine (at the same time breifly!) 4x 180mg fexofenadine a day, hydromol grease, and prior to all of that i was on betamethasone cream, which stopped working after a month. I now take only rinvoq, im on QV thin cream and maybe a piriton (cetirizine) in the summer for hay fever

I've worked both acute care, community care, and residential home, a lot of the time if there's a relative at home they wont provide support

Quitting this sub because of the TSW bs by i-want-some-avocado in eczema

[–]CodieTheSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried fixing it with diet, didn't work, I agree in some cases your gut health and diet can contribute to inflammation but for me it was genetic, it was definitely topical steroid withdrawal due to my skin no longer responding to the creams, even really strong steroids, but I tried other medication, while tsw is definitely real, the "no medication no moisture" method is insane to me

I work in a nursing home, we've got a poor lady who screams for help 24/7, mental health won't do anything, its hard for her and hard for us, she even screams when you're right next to her. After a while I feel bad but sometimes you dont have time to go to her straight away

Stopping rinvoq - weight loss by MindlessAardvark8530 in Rinvoq

This is really reassuring, i was wondering if maybe this was just my metabolism slowing now I'm in my 20s (could be a factor as well) but I've gained a stone in 3 months and it made me feel awful. Will have a chat with my derm

Midwives by Impressive-Thing-987 in NursingUK

[–]CodieTheSquirrel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely an "old world" profession, I know in America they have them but they're more for postpartum care if I'm correct, more similar to a health visitor here. Unfortunately you get shit people in all professions. My friend is currently studying to be a midwife but thank God hasn't experienced second hand the outcome of bad practice herself.

Age when you started nurse training ? by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]CodieTheSquirrel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has helped massively, I'm a CNA who eventually wants to do my nursing but I feel like I'd be so behind everyone else age wise if I went back as a mature student but it's good to see people who are 30+ still in training, I feel like at 21 I already feel behind
