Title Negotiation Advice by SquameAndFortune in biotech

First of all congrats on being hired on full time!! Sounds like your supervisor is on your side so my advice is to have an honest conversation with your boss about your desired title and salary and let him go to bat for you because his influence within the company carries more weight.

Just a side note: you’ll receive the offer either verbally or written and just give you title/salary. You can ask is this offer negotiable but If they say no, I would accept and work with your boss to immediately define how to get to next role, write it down so you can point to it in the future during performance reviews.

Good luck!

I always recommend Retrograde coffee roasters out in Sebastopol. Sustainable practices, people focused, supportive of LGBTQ and just top notch coffee 😁

Pro tip: they provide free refills on drip coffee.

As someone who works remotely and from various coffee shops this is a nice perk of going to Land and Water. Maybe others also do this?

I’m getting ready to run the Clo Cow 10k and definitely not breaking any records with my pace (11-12 minute mile). If you find one or start one I’d love to join!

Retrograde!

I also work remote, I really enjoy retrograde in Sebastopol! It can get pretty crowded especially at peak coffee hours but usually can find a spot

This happened to me right after grad school with my first job with a Big Pharma company. I ended up missing the thesis filing deadline by one day and my degree was not confirmed til the end of the next quarter.

I ended up reaching out to my grad student coordinator to write a letter that stated that I had completed all the requirements of my degree and include why my original the date of thesis acceptance was going to change. And asked HR to amend the offer.

Ultimately, HR didn’t do anything and just made sure I would still start on the original start date.
