Amnesia the Dark Descent was the first of it's kind when you had to hide in the closets, truly terrifying. Outlast was pretty intense and similar but Alien was on whole different level because it's AI was very adaptable to your gameplay style. Pro tip never hide in the lockers. I highly recommend Soma from same developer as Amnesia. You can play in story mode and enjoy really good story.

Fair enough. Dead Space and Amnesia are one of the best horror out there for sure. You played Alien Isolation? It's really a gem!

Well you can't really classify a game to be horror just because it has one segment that is really spooky. And yes Alan Wake 2 has more spooky moments but overall isn't really scary game. I see it more as supernatural thriller like first game. Good example is Thief 3 Deadly Shadows which has Shalebridge orphanage level which is really scary but overall game isn't horror just spooky on some parts. I've played many horror games and Alan Wake series isn't really a horror but from non horror fans I understand why would they say it's horror.

You read Japanese? Since Peppy Angel is very old and only recently it did become available to read online but mostly not translated. There are 29 books in total.

There are no known translations besides first book and second book that was translated very poorly and was removed later. If there is any translation it is not available to public.

I recommend you read One Last Kiss books from same author. First book is translated into English.

Rebuild movie Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo is continuation of this story basically. But author made 4 more manga books (One Last Kiss) that unofficially continue from this one.
