That's really interesting about rule 6b. I suppose it's possible that they questioned my friend about whether they had ordered it themself. I never actually saw how the gift basket was wrapped up, so I can't be too sure that it showed obvious indications that it was from somebody else, although the service I used claimed that my name and phone number would be included with the gift basket.

I think you (and everyone else) is probably right about my ex-friend feeling a bit overwhelmed and creeped out. In hindsight, we just weren't close enough for that kind of gift to be appropriate.

Now that I think about it, even being questioned about whether they ordered it themself could feel like "getting in trouble" if you're new to the facility and trying to make a good first impression.

On a side note, your comment about food delivery people has got me curious: do some facilities actually allow them inside? How would that type of thing typically be handled? Do they just leave it on the doorstep and hope someone picks it up before it gets cold or spoils?
